CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF, TUKUR BURATAI RECEIVES AWARD
The chief of army staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai has been nominated for an award by the Global Excellence Foundation for his professionalism as a public servant in Nigeria.
In a statement by the foundation, Buratai was nominated for the foundation’s Vision Africa Global Award as the ‘Man of the year’. The foundation said the nomination is followed by an investigation into Buratai’s activities.
PRESIDENT BUHARI NEEDS PATIENCE FROM ALL – OSHIOMHOLE
Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, Edo state governor, has advised the people of Nigeria to exercise patience with President Muhammadu Buhari’s government. The comrade explained that it will take some time to solve the nation’s economy which he said was destroyed by the government under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for 16 years. Oshiomhole said Nigerians should have faith in President Buhari for better days lie ahead.
GOODLUCK JONATHAN RETURNS TO NIGERIA
Ex- president Goodluck Jonathan has returned to Nigeria after several weeks away from the country. While Mr Jonathan was away, many of his aides, associates have been arrested by anti-graft agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged corrupt practice.
Also, while GEJ was away, his party, Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) has remained troubled over the chairmanship position of the main opposition party. Mr Jonathan arrived the country yesterday, July 3.
TROOPS AMBUSH INSURGENTS AT KUKAWA – ARMY
Men of the Nigerian army have ambushed some members of the dreaded Boko Haram insurgents. Army’s spokesman, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman informed the general public about this, through a statement released to that effect.
The acting director, army public relations said the ambush occurred at Kukawa local government area of Borno state where the sect was stopped from carrying out their nefarious activities.
BRAVE OFFICER ALONE FACED BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS
When Boko Haram insurgency was at its peak, Misiya lost his job and almost lost his life to the terrorist group, just to ensure that there was life of peace in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital. Since Misiya joined the Civilian JTF, he has not relented. He said he is not going to back down until he sees all elements of insurgency are crushed in the Northern region. He added that if the fight continues till the future, he will also continue.
MECHANICS, DELTA COUNCIL AT WAR OVER REVENUE DRIVE
The financial crisis rocking the nation occasioned by the falling oil price has pitched revenue officers in Isoko North Local Government Area with the executives of the National Automobile Technicians Association (NATA) over revenue payment to upgrade the financial base of the local government council in Delta State. The crisis rose to a peak during the weekend when the council revenue officials dragged the mechanics to the state revenue court located in the area to compel them to pay their levy to the council revenue coffers. However, the Delta state chairman of the Automobile Association, demanded governments to build mechanic villages for the mechanics as that is the only condition for their members to pay revenue to the councils in the state.
NIGER DELTA LEADER BLASTS SENATOR BINTA OVER COMMENTS ON NIGERIA MARITIME UNIVERSITY
The executive director of Leadership Initiative for Transformation and Empowerment, Joel Bisina, has taken issue with Senator Binta Masi Garba, describing as “ignorance taken too far” her comments on the floor of the Senate over the sitting of the Nigerian Maritime University in the coastal Niger Delta.
Bisina, who is from Egbema, a riverine community in Warri North, said the comments of Senator Binta did not show the spirit of one Nigeria, maintaining that her statements were outrageous and could incite anger from the Niger Delta people.
BUHARI RECEIVES YET ANOTHER ARMS DEAL REPORT
President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly given anti-graft agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) orders to arrest everyone indicted in arms procurement probe. Reports about the arms deal to the president said efforts were already ongoing by the committee at that time to get across to the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), to discuss the prosecution of the freshly indicted persons.
PDP ACCUSES BUHARI OF SHIELDING CORRUPT OFFICIALS
President Muhammadu Buhari has been accused of using the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as a tool to oppress the opposition party. The PDP berated the president over the arrest of Senator Iyiola Omisore on Sunday, July 3. Its spokesman, Prince Diran Odeyemi said the development was a “witch-hunt”, wondering why the federal government was “shielding” members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from prosecution. Odeyemi said Buhari was keen on silencing the opposition, adding that his anti-corruption fight “would continue to be a ruse, in-as-much-as many corrupt people within the ruling party, APC, are not exposed and prosecuted”.
