Congratulations on your fourth wedding anniversary, what has kept the marriage going?

It has been God because He is the key to everything. He has blessed us with love and helped us communicate better.

What would you say marriage has taught you in four years?

In four years, marriage has only taught me how to be patient and by doing that, we would love each other better, to tolerate each other. Also, when you make God the main focus of your marriage, you will always have a deep re-think when your marriage is troubled.

What would you say to youths who are looking forward to getting married?

The truth is you never can tell when you are ready for marriage unless you understand you are not perfect and the person you want to be with is not perfect too but when you understand you can make yourself the best person suitable for that person, then you can get married. The most important thing is for you to absolutely make yourself a better person for whoever will come and as you improve on yourself, God will also help the other person to improve. One thing I always tell people is if you learn to communicate with God better as individuals, you will learn to communicate better with each other.

People are of the opinion that marriage makes people more responsible, is that true?

There are people who are married and still live like individuals. So, marriage is not what makes you responsible. However, responsibility is something that you build even before you get married which includes the way you treat others.

That determines how you would treat your spouse and children. The most important thing is to learn to be responsible before you venture into marriage.

You recently bagged two awards, tell us about them?

Sometimes when awards come, it is another way of telling you to keep your supporters, to keep doing what you are doing well and to keep improving yourself.

The first is a humanitarian award. It was given to me because they saw how I have been able to help people in my own little way. The second was given to me by Comedy Infusion, which organizes a show every year to celebrate people with Down syndrome and I have always been part of that programme. So, they decided to honour me this year with the award of the Most Outstanding Comedian. For me, it just says, next year, we would want you to be part of our prgoramme.

Who do you dedicate the awards to?

There is nothing that comes to me that I do not want to give the glory back to God because He has made it all well. If I don’t dedicate it to my wife, I would be doing myself injustice because she has always been there to tell me, Baby, I think you need new jokes. She is so concerned about my career and how well I have grown in the business. Also, who can stop a mother’s prayer? So, I dedicate the award to my parents.

What are some of the things you set to achieve at the beginning of the year?

At the beginning of the year, I said to myself there must be business diversification and we are working on that. That is the reason we registered our new business name, Black Advocate International. This time around we want to try as much as possible to look beyond the entertainment industry.

Also, we said to ourselves we would improve our international shows and this year we are going to Manchester, London, Canada and I will also be performing in the United States of America, alongside Jedi on his Laff Wan Klll Me Die show. So, it has been a great improvement. We also want to create an avenue to teach young talents coming into the industry how to improve their career.

Aside this, what other projects are you working on?

The only thing is the business diversification and we are still in the pipeline. We want to be sure we are ready to kick off this project so people can see clearly we are fully ready to satisfy their yearnings. We won’t stop working because it is a project that would be continuous.

What has been the basic challenges?

The basic challenges so far are from our own end, which is creating time to attend to some things that require my attention. But I have a very good team that has been working tirelessly to see that without me, the business can continue which is the important thing.

Sorry about the loss of your baby, how did you feel when you heard the news?

It was not a news that came in a day because it was a process. Actually, there was a diagnosis. We got the result and we were hopeful it would change. Up to the time she went for the caesarean section, we were still hopeful but we just want to thank God her life was preserved and God kept her strong ever since.

I would say, she is the strongest woman I have ever known not because she is my wife, but because she was able to recover fast knowing full well I had to do little or nothing to console her which was why I was scared. The fear in me grew because I was scared of consoling her. How would I be able to hold her hands and say everything is okay, how would I look into her eyes and say it will be alright and much more which was what drove me to write on my Instagram page because I needed people to talk to me and let me know how to talk to her. I just want to appreciate Nigerians who sent words of advice, their condolences. God has been awesome with the family.

What exactly was the result of the diagnosis?

I cannot go into detail as to what happened because I do not want to remind my wife of the pains she went through. We know the body does not come back the same until God has done something new that could take her mind off it. It is still a process as it is barely two months. It is tough but I want to remain grateful to God for everything.

Knowing you were heartbroken, how exactly were you able to console her?

After the whole thing, I was at the hospital with her which was something that gave her strength because when she opened her eyes, I was the first person she saw and she was able to hold my hands. The only thing I was able to do was to keep praying. I can’t say my words were the most comforting, but I think God had gone before me to comfort her because I was not sure. I just kept telling her you would be a mother very soon and people are going to celebrate you. Just allow this phase to pass and you would know that God is awesome.

When the news broke, people said she lost the pregnancy and not the child?

The thing is, what most people did not understand was a caesarean was done, the baby was brought out alive and the doctors tried to save the baby, but after about six hours, the baby lost the battle. So, it was not miscarriage. After the birth, I had the baby in my arms. I heard the baby cry. I remember I was in the theatre with them when they brought out the baby and I fainted.

What are you most grateful for?

I am grateful for life, and for people. Aside the fact that God has given me life, I am grateful that God has surrounded me with people who are loving. I am grateful that I am able to provide for people and my life and career is increasing daily. The fact that God has been there with me, seeing me through all that happened.

What would you say to your fans?

God will keep blessing them, and keep them because if God does not keep them, they won’t be here to support us. It is from that blessing they are able to reach out into their pocket to support our business.

I thank God for them because it has been great and awesome because it all goes a long way.
