A Singapore navy ship has located the fuselage of the AirAsia plane that crashed into the sea late last month which killed all 162 people on board, the city-state’s defense chief said yesterday (January 14).
Defence Minister, Ng Eng Hen made the announcement in a Facebook post. Finding the fuselage of the Airbus 320-200 is seen as vital, as most of the victims are believed to be still trapped inside. Just 48 bodies have so far been recovered.
Indonesian divers had pulled out the cockpit voice recorder from the sunken wreckage of an AirAsia passenger jet yesterday, a key step towards determining the cause of the crash. The cockpit voice recorder, which retains the last two hours of conversation between the pilots and with air traffic controllers, was found close to where the flight data recorder was recovered from the bottom of the Java Sea on Monday (January 12).
