The arrest on Saturday, June 10, 2017, of Chukwudumeje Onwuamadike – the notorious criminal whose reign of kidnapping sent rich men relocating from FESTAC, Amuwo Odofin and Ojo areas of Lagos – was aided by his sister, childhood friend and four mistresses.
They were all picked up by the special Intelligence Response Team. And their interrogation led to the arrest of the billionaire kidnapper.
All six didn’t know he’s a notorious criminal running from the long arms of the law, and were granted bail.
The Akammili, Umudim in Nnewi (Anambra state) gangster evaded arrest for years as he used hundreds of SIM cards (and 126 registered SIM were in his possession when nabbed).
He claimed he bought them at Computer Village in Ikeja (Lagos) for N1,500 apiece.
Two phones, a Thuraya and Vertu (worth N5 million) with jamming devices to frustrate being trailed were recovered from the 36 year old father of five children.
Altogether, he had 11 phones on him when nabbed, with each dedicated to different persons and gangs.
Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike was arrested at his N170 million 3, Fred Shoboyede Street residence in Magodo (Kosofe area of Lagos) at 1 pm on Saturday, June 10. His decade long reign of rage and terror ended, in spite of his brilliance and smartness.
Collecting $4 million (N1.6 billion) and billions of Naira in ransom, he lived like a mogul with fast money making ventures. With sleek cars, including a Lexus jeep and Mercedes Benz G-Wagon, he amassed a property portfolio of over a billion Naira. Two luxury pads in Magodo and another three in Ghana have been traced.
His associates and accomplices are being rounded up across the country, and soon he will face a long and arduous trial with death penalty as one of the punishment when convicted.
