78-year-old Sepp Blatter has confirmed he will be standing for a fifth term as Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) president, after he had said in 2011 that he would stand down for next year’s elections.
Blatter has been FIFA president since 1998, and if re-elected next year, would have stayed in office for a remarkable 21 years at the end of his tenure in 2019.
His announcement comes after the Union of European Football Associations – UEFA’s president, Michel Platini declared that he will not stand.
