Sonorous singer, ESSENCE returns with single, See Love

GERALDINE Okoro, popularly known as Essence, is one of the talented artistes Nigeria is blessed with.  Her uniqueness is tied to her sonorous voice.  She travelled a couple of weeks back out of Nigeria and released a new single while away.

ENCOMIUM Weekly had a chat with her about her projection for 2014, her new singles and love life.

How will you describe 2013 career wise, what were the things you achieved?

2013 was an eye opening year for me as an artiste.  I found myself making up my mind to do what comes naturally to me artistically and not what is dictated by the market.  Also, 2013 made me understand that at the end of the day, it starts and ends with you.

What were the mistakes made in 2013 that you have learnt from?

I didn’t make mistakes in 2013.  I made discoveries I will implement in 2014.

What is your projection for 2014?

My 2014 projection is to do more of me.  I discovered after Goldie’s death that no one will follow you into that grave no matter how much they profess to love your music and all.  So, I will make music that makes me and true Essence fans happy.  I will also live my life to please God first and then me.  Nobody else’s opinion matters.

You released your single a couple of days back, See Love, how is the reception?

I released a new single, See Love.  It has been receiving tremendous accolades.  It just shows that I am sticking to my R n’ B love tunes spiced with a little highlife.

What inspired the song and what is it all about?

See Love is just a feel good song about the satisfaction of loving and being loved.

When are you releasing the video?

You will have to wait a bit for the video.  The song has to be heard first before it is seen.

What about your album?

The full album should make its debut before the end of the year, by God’s grace.

You travelled a couple of weeks back, was it career related or leisure?

My travelling was family related.  My father clocked 80 and so, we decided to have a family get together, all his children, grandchildren to celebrate him.

Is Essence in a relationship?

If I had a naira every time I was asked if I was in a relationship, I am sure I would be a millionaire by now.  Yes, I am.  He is someone who knows what he wants and goes for it.  He walked up to me and made his intention known, that was how it started.

Is the relationship altar bound?

When I get to the altar, you will definitely know. I don’t want to go further than that.

Tell us about him, how your path crossed, is he also an entertainer?

I don’t want to go further.  When we need to talk about that we will.  But he is not an entertainer though he loves entertainment.
