South South: Uncle Jo and wife, Patience give daughter out

President Goodluck Jonathan and wife, Patience, popularly called Uncle Jo and Aunty Pepe respectively, are in the best of moods at the moment. One of their daughters, Faith Elizabeth Sakwe has already begun the process of getting married to her heartthrob, Godswill Osim Edward. Faith and her fiancé are graduates of the University of Calabar. They got engaged in 2013. Faith was adopted by the Jonathans when she was very young.

The marriage proceedings kicked off with the traditional marriage ceremony at the Otuoke, Bayelsa State residence of the president on Saturday, April 5, 2014. Uncle Jo, who returned to the country on Friday evening after attending an official function in Belgium, breezed into Otuoke in the late hours of same day. Before now, the First Lady, Aunty Pepe, on Friday, 28, through Sunday, March 30, was in Otuoke with a domestic task-force that ensured the A, B, C, D up to Z of the epoch event followed each other traditionally.

The follow-up marriage ceremony will be held at the National Ecumenical Centre, Phase 1, Abuja, and reception at the International Conference Centre, Herbert Macaulay Way, Abuja on Saturday, April 12, 2014.

As we speak, all plans to make the three-in-one ceremony a talk-of-the-town event had already been executed. Two weeks earlier, especially-crafted, gold twin cards for the traditional and white weddings in creamy boxes that carry a jewelsque air of beauty and luxury with vivid directions to the wedding venues were dispatched to all the A-class personalities from within and without our shores who were to be part of the soiree.

SIR TOM AMIOKU PLAYS HOST TO DELTANS AT THANKSGIVING

Sir (Chief) Tom Amioku two Sundays back held a special thanksgiving mass service and reception to celebrate his recent appointment as commissioner representing Delta State on the governing board of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). The mass held at St. Williams Catholic Church, Orerokpe, Ethiope-East LGA was presided over by Rev. (Dr.) Anthony Mario-Ozele.

The event which was attended by crème de la crème still rings a bell in Delta State, and will linger on in the memory of residents of the community for a long time. Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan led the train of the high and mighty. His deputy, Professor Amos Utuama, the new Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. (Hon.) Peter Owosanya, representative of Ijaw Leader and former Minister of Information, Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, the traditional ruler of Okpe Kingdom, the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, HRM Orhue 1, the leadership of Urhobo Political Congress (UPC), under the chairmanship of Obarisi (Barr.) Ovie Omo-Agege, former Secretary to the State Government, traditional rulers, senators, members – House of Representatives and commissioners, among others, were on that train that stormed Okpe to celebrate with one of their own for adding another laurel to his chain of appointments. I will spare you details of all the ‘chopping and politicking’. But every department was adequately taken care of by the wife, Lady, (Chief) Roseline Amioku.

Amioku has been as consistent as the northern star; reason Deltans regard him as a big fish in a large pond. With a second Master degree in Business Administration, his career voyage has been through the teaching profession, corporate world, management consultancy and governance.

During the James Ibori-led-administration, he was at various times the civil commissioner, special duty commissioner, pioneer commissioner in the then newly- created ministry of power and energy, and finally commissioner for works. And under Uduaghan, he has been the Chairman of Delta Transport Service Limited and now member of governing board of NDDC, aside his other current positions as Delta State PDP vice chairman and chairman of the party in Delta Central Senatorial District.
