South South: ABUJA BIG GIRL, IMAOBONG ESU-NTE IN MULTI-MILLION NAIRA FRAUD

These are really hard times for Akwa Ibom-born very popular Abuja-based-big girl, Dr. (Mrs.) Imaobong Akon Esu-Nte. She was last week given a red carpet to the lock-up, and she is presently cooling off in one of the detention cells of the Ibrahim Lamorde-led-anti-corruption agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja.
Popularly called ‘Big momsy’ by her friends, she is one of the super civil servants that dictate who and what rocks in the heart of Abuja. Until her arrest, she was a front-liner and top official at the corporate headquarters of the Nigerian Prisons Service (NPS), Abuja. And now a chain of allegations that border on multi-million naira fraud is hanging on her neck.
She was on secondment to the NPS as Head of Capital Accounts, from the Federal Ministry of Finance where she was a Grade Level 14 officer. The moment she resumed at the NPS, we learnt, she upped her ante in the art of living large, a lifestyle adopted by most civil servants in the Federal Capital Territory.
And like our fathers in the days of old used to say, ‘in every 10 days, the thief has nine, while the owner of the barn will hold onto one. Tuesday, May 6, was that day for the owner. She was picked up by operatives of the anti-graft agency, and for hours on end EFCC interrogators and investigators bombarded her with questions that have a lot in common with allegations of corrupt/ sharp practices, abuse of office, chicanery, double-dealing and money laundering.
We heard that EFCC officials acted on tip-offs received regarding her flamboyant and lusciously expensive lifestyle which is clearly not in consonance with her monthly take-home packet of N121, 460.
So far the ownership of a long list of fat bank accounts, expensive wonder-on-wheels and architectural masterpieces in different areas of the FCT have been traced to her. There is a palatial mansion, a duplex with two-bedroom boys quarters at Sun City Estate, Abuja and another duplex at Karu Extension, Abuja, which is nearing completion; current versions of a Mercedes Benz ML 350 4matic wagon, Mercedes Benz GL 500 SUV and a Toyota Sienna, aside sums running into over N200 million deposited in her personal and corporate accounts in Zenith and Access banks in the last three going to four years.
There was also mention of approximately N60m that she paid in various tranches into the account of Karu, Abuja parish of The Redeemed Christian Church of God.
Big Momsy is also said to be the owner and sole signatory to the accounts of Darima Properties, ID Petroleum, Abasiaga Global Resources Limited, Abasiono Nigeria Limited and Ememima Global Ventures Limited, companies she registered after being posted to the NPS and with her children – Dr. Etsu Daniel, Eme Faith and Uwen David, as directors.
Meanwhile, as she is still battling how to tackle the many questions begging for answers, her goodie goodie friends seem to have abandoned her to her fate. And I will spare you the details of what some of them are saying about her; but for sure, it is most unpleasant.

IS THERE REALLY A SUPERIORITY WAR BETWEEN AKPABIO’S WIFE AND PRINCE AKPABIO?

Ekaette Unoma Akpabio

In Akwa Ibom State, aside the already heated up polity bordering on the 2015 elections, another very hot item on the gossip avenue is that the Akpabio family is in a state of hostility. There is talk about financial supremacy and fashion going on between the Akpabio wives, and the development, tale-bearers said, has caused a crack and a near collapse in the previously cordial relationship of the women.
And those at the centre of the war are Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, wife of the state governor, and Mrs. Uduak Ukpong Akpabio, wife of the governor’s cousin and former Personal Assistant on General Duties, Prince Ukpong Akpabio, popularly called Mega.
The genesis of the palaver is traceable to a time when the governor’s cousin and the governor’s wife had issues which later snow-balled into a shouting order and mega, allegedly challenging the first lady, asking her to keep quiet that she does not have money adding that even her governor-husband is not as grounded as he is, cash-wise.
According to members of the AKS Amebo association, the antagonism over who is more solid financially, later extended to who is more detailed about fashion and style. We heard that Mega’s wife drew the sword; whatever the first lady stepped out in, Mega’s wife replicated, starting from apparels, shoes, hand-bags, accessories, etc. And at a point, designers entrusted with decorating their different wardrobes compromised and sold them out.
What broke the camel’s back, we heard, was that few weeks back, the first lady, who is fondly called Mother Teresa was to chair a certain event, and on arrival, she was astonished to see Prince’s wife fully adorned in an attire that was a carbon copy of hers and accordingly declined alighting from the car. So upset was the first lady that she turned down all pleas of the organizers for a change of mind, and within seconds her convoy sped out of the event centre.
