Student dies in her sleep choking on chewing gum

A 21-year-old American college basketball player, Shanice Clark, who was found dead over the weekend, might have inhaled chewing gum into her lungs while asleep, according to a coroner.
She was discovered unresponsive in her dormitory at about 3am on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at California University of Pennsylvania.
Official say Ms Clark, who was from Toronto, Canada, “aspirated” the gum while sleeping.
The university in California, Pennsylvania, said it was “deeply saddened” by the death of the 6ft senior basketball player, who played on its Vulcans team.
The college’s athletic director, Dr Karen Hjerpe, said in a statement: “Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and friends of Shanice Clark.
“Shanice was a bright student and talented player. Her smile and personality will be missed.”
