An Austrian law student is set to sue social media giant – Facebook – over privacy rights, and has invited the site’s one billion subscribers to join him.
Max Schrems (26) is unhappy the leading social media site allegedly violated data protection by tracking internet use on external sites, including the use of ‘like’ buttons.
He also claimed Facebook supported the US Prism surveillance programme, which was exposed by whistle-blower, Edward Snowden.
He is claiming 500 euros for everyone that signs up to his campaign.
The lawsuit could be the biggest ever taken in Europe depending on how many people sign up.
