Students react over non-payment of SIWES/I.T allowances + HOW NANS WADES IN

Students of various institutions across the country have expressed enthusiasm on the probing of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) over the nonpayment of students’ allowances as claimed by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

Most students expressed their grievances as they have been tricked to believe they would be paid over the years. It was alleged that ITF has looted and diverted their entitlements making them suffer.

It would be recalled that the office of the Senate President, NANS wrote demanding the full probe of the ITF for the continued non-payment of SIWES allowance from 2010-2015.

NANS condemned the act and called on the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for a full probe. The rigorous investigation across institutions in Nigeria showed that there is a systemic fraud being perpetuated at the ITF National Headquarters, Jos, Plateau State in partnership with the respective ITF offices in each state of the federation.

It was alleged that each state has over the years, diverted the earned stipend under the pretense of inaccurate bank details. They are said to have connived with commercial banks anchoring the SIWES Allowance payment, and any bank found guilty in the unethical practice would be duly sanctioned.

NANS gave a two-week ultimatum for the immediate payment of all outstanding SIWES allowance from 2010 – 2015. Its failure would result to the mobilization of a coordinated protest at the various ITF offices across all campuses in every state including their national headquarters to air their grievances.

ENCOMIUM Weekly spoke to students as they expressed their opinions on the non-payment of their allowances over the years…

ADEBAYO OLUWASEUN – I did mine in 2011, nothing has been paid. I wonder the kind of diversion they have been doing in the scheme. Thank God they have been exposed. The sanctions should be effected with immediate effect.

TOSIN ANUOLUWAPO – This is nothing but corruption of the highest order. They have embezzled our entitlements and made us suffer.

PRAISE AUGUSTINE – We shouldn’t embrace corruption. I did my IT in 2005, did all necessary documentation yet they haven’t paid me. Thank you NANS for bringing this issue to the public domain. EFCC should probe them.

DAMILOLA ADELEKE – They should probe every high ranking staff in ITF. Mine has been long overdue. I did my SIWES in 2013 and since then, they haven’t paid.

EUNICE OGBONNA – They should be probed immediately. It has been more than eight years and I never received a dime. They are heartless and kleptomaniacs.

AWE GBEMISOLA – I did mine in 2011, nothing has been paid. I wonder the kind of diversion they have been doing in that scheme. Thank God they have been exposed. I pray they pay me as soon as possible.
