Super model Bisi Rahaman weds Bonny James Olong – Details of their engagement and solemnization

THE wedding ceremony between super model, Olabisi Olufemi Rahaman and the man who mean the world to her, Bonny James Olong kicked off on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at the Ikoyi Registry, Lagos.  The engagement/traditional marriage came up on Friday, March 30, 2012, while the final lap which was the solemnization was on Saturday, March 31, 2012, at Kingsword International Church, Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos.  The three part ceremony was capped up with a moderate reception at Etal Halls, Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos.  ENCOMIUM Weekly attended the event and brings you the happenstances.

 

THE LOVE STORY OF OLABISI AND JAMES OLONG

The newly-wed Bonny James and Olabisi Olong kicked off their love affair a year ago, not knowing it would end at the altar.  The lovebirds kept on and according to the man of the moment, James Olong, “Bisi is the one for me.”  Their introduction was on Saturday, February 4, 2012.  They had their registry wedding on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, engagement and traditional wedding two days later and the solemnization on Saturday, March 31, 2012.

 

WHAT IS SYNONYMOUS BETWEEN BOTH PARENTS

Bisi’s father, Chief Rahaman S. Alabi is a retired Airforce officer, so is his in-law, Mr. James Olong.  They were friends while in the service of their fatherland and had served the country abroad together.  They also retired same year.  Chief Rahaman, who is from Igbomina Ekiti in Kwara State is a titled chief of Aboru, Lagos.  Bisi’s mother died years back but her stepmother, Mrs. Adesola Rahaman stood in for her during the ceremony.

 

THE ENGAGEMENT CEREMONY

The engagement ceremony of Olabisi Olufemi Rahaman and Bonny James OLong was at the Rahaman’s Aboru, Lagos home. It was a ceremony that had a touch of purple as the dress code.  As the situation demanded it was an inter-cultural ceremony which saw the Rahamans, who are from Kwara and the Olongs, who originated from Idoma in Benue State displaying their rich culture and tradition.

 

MAMA RAINBOW AS THE ENGAGER

Called up to anchor the engagement ceremony was veteran actess, Idowu Phillips (Mama Rainbow).  She acted on behalf of the Rahamans and because the one being contracted by the Olong family didn’t show up in time, Mama Rainbow was asked to also represent them.  She was assisted on the job by another television and radio presenter, Seyi Hamzat.

 

THE DRESSING UP

Bisi Rahaman’s engagement dressing up was at her dad’s Aboru, Lagos home. Her model friends like Warebi Martha, Isioma Onyebo, Nikki Delicia ensured the 2003 Miss Malaika appeared more beautiful, though the process took some hours.  Bisi’s husband, however, simultaneously got dressed up at his Ajao Estate, Lagos home.

 

OBEY’S CLASSIC TUNES LIT UP CEREMONY

Chief Ebenezer Obey Fabiyi’s classic old number of Gbo temi, Eto igbeyawo, were the choice at the earlier part of the engagement ceremony.  Those listening to the evergreen numbers from afar needn’t be told a marriage ceremony was ongoing in the neighbourhood.  The old tunes, however, gave way for the new skool when the party started proper.

 

THE SOLEMNISATION

On Saturday, March 31, 2012, Bisi and James’ wedding ceremony continued with the church and final segment.  Held at Kingsword International Church, Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos, hugely attended by friends, families and associates, the colours of the day were white, pink and wine.  The three colours were very much represented in the outfits paraded by guests.

 

SIX RUNWAY QUEENS CALL TO DUTY

Six slim built and tall model friends of Bisi Rahaman were listed on the bridal party.  Spearheaded by Isioma Onyebo, who played the role of the chief bride’s maid, others on the train included Opeyemi Awoyemi, Aisha Danjuma, Amina Alli, Aisha Olu, Titi Olunlade.

 

OFFICIATING MINISTERS

Kingsword International Church head pastor, Jimi Tewe and Pastors Michael Omisore, Lola Tewe and Boye Ajayi supervised the joining of the couple which was characterized by prayers, hymns, communion, message, the charge before the final announcement of the couple as husband and wife.

 

THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE CHURCH AND THE RECEPTION VENUE

The distance between Kingsword International Church, venue of the solemnization and where the reception took place, Etal Hotel and Halls, Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos was very short. It’s a walking distance of say five minutes.  Immediately after the church service, guests didn’t find it difficult to move to the reception.

 

SHARP BAND AND DJ JACKSON SUPPLIED THE MUSIC

Popular social band, Sharp Band pallied with DJ Jackson to supply music inside Etal Halls.  Both old and new school music was practically in the air at the ceremony.

 

ABOUT THE CAKE

The cake was a three-layered affair decorated with pink icing roses and set on a beautiful table.  The cake was courtesy of a relation of the groom.

 

THE ASO EBI PEOPLE

The aso ebi people were small in number but conspicuous.  It was a pink colour lace material in beautiful designs.  Friends and family of the bride had the cloth as their ceremonial dress.

 

TITI ADELAGUN’S NEW STATUS

She was very much busy on the runway.  No fashion event around Lagos and beyond without Titi, that was courtesy of her slim frame but now the individual who recently featured in Lagbaja’s musical video has added more weight and sweet in her look, which suggests she might have bid the runway bye for good just like her contemporary, Bisi Rahaman.

 

DOUBLE TOAST TO THE COUPLE

It was a double toast to new beginning for the newest couple in town, James and Bisi Olong.  It was offered by the chief bride’s maid, Isioma Onyebo and the best man, Bello Salim.

 

WHEN BRIDAL DANCE TOOK CENTRE STAGE

Specialised bridal dance in choreography took centrestage at the latter part of the reception.  The bride, Bisi and her friends participated in the colourful choreography.

 

WAREBI MARTHA AND SOLA DUROMOLA AS PILLARS

The two super models and friends of the bride were not on the bridal train list.  They, however, made sure the ceremony went well according to plan.  Both Warebi and Sola garbed in the aso ebi of pink lace fabric were on their feet all through doing this and that.

 

FREE FLOW OF EXOTIC CHAMPAGNES

Imported champagnes in varying brands flowed like water at the reception.  Apart from other soft drinks and beer, exotic champagne dotted every table.
