Switching traffic lights off at night in London could save £10 million (N2.66bn) a year and relieve frustrated motorists left stuck waiting at reds when there are no other cars around.
This is according to the London Assembly Conservatives (LCA), whose report say drivers waste more than 2,000 hours every night in the capital sat for no reason at lights.
Spokesman for LCA, Richard Tracey said some of the benefits of the practice, which is common in countries like France and Spain, would be quicker journey on public transport, faster delivery times for couriers and lorry drivers, and allowing taxi drivers to take more fares.
