The Lagos state Environmental Task Force comprising the officials of Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), men of the Metro Police and Rapid Response Squard (RRS), officials of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) today Wednesday, November 8, 2017, went after operators of motorcycles (okada) in certain parts of the state. Hundreds of the okada in operation this morning were intercepted and whisked away by the task force with a view to fully implementing the traffic and environmental laws of Lagos state.
Some of the areas the operation affected this morning, encomium.ng gathered, are Abule Egba, Agbado -Ijaye, Ishaga, Fagba, Oko Oba, Abattoir, Ifako-Ijaye, Ogba, Iyana Ipaja, Ojodu- Berger, Agege, Dopemu, Papa Ashafa and others which left many commuters stranded at various bus stops in some of the areas.
Our visit to some of the affected areas, including Fagba, Ishaga, Ifako confirmed the situation as some okada riders were found standing with arms akinbo, discussing the issue. One of the riders, Sunday Uwata, who spoke to encomium.ng on the operation lamented, “The operation caught almost all of us unawares and it affected most of us who are early callers at the park. They descended on us just like that and moved away our motor bikes. At least, 20 motorcycles were carted away here this morning. The lucky ones among us are still hiding now, watching what will happen next before afternoon. All l know is that Ambode doesnt want us any more on any of the Lagos roads be it the highway or whatever because most of us operating on non-prohibited routes were also arrested this morning and their okadas equally seized.”
