Tensions flare as students storm Westminster in protest over tuition fees

Tensions flared between police and protesters  yesterday (Wednesday, November 19) when students’ demonstration against tuition fees and education cuts turned hostile in central London.

The protest, organized by the Student Assembly Against Austerity, started outside the University of London (England). London’s Metropolitan Police said they arrested 11 people for offences including assaulting police, criminal damage and violent disorder.

Organizer, Aaron Kiely, said the protesters’ message was very simple: ‘a return to free education and an alternative to tuition fees’.
