Matharoo sisters were detained by SARS

The cyber bullying and extortion case against Jyoti and Kiran Matharoo and Babatunde Oyebade was handled by the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Unit (Abuja) in conjunction with Special Anti-Robbery Squad (Lagos).

Those in these special arms  of the police are specially trained to crack crimes against ingenious crooks who perpetrate high crimes with damaging repercussions.

And after weeks of investigation, from possibly October 2016 when the sisters and their accomplice started tormenting oil mogul, Femi Otedola, they were nabbed in December.

News of their arrest filtered in first on December 17 when thecapital.ng (run by Lanre Alfred, influential high society journalist with ears to the ground) reported it. It’s unclear when they were actually arrested.

They were reportedly taken to Ikeja  (Lagos) at SARS detention centre which has a female wing and about five cells for men.

Only very serious cases of felonies such as kidnapping, robbery, blackmail bordering on threat to life, bunkering and the like are handled here.

The ladies were reportedly detained in the female cell, until their appearance in Yaba Magistrate court on Friday, December 23, 2017.

That day, the “form for remand order” was brought before the Yaba Magistrate court.

The form listed the address of the suspects as Eko Hotel. And accused them of “conspiracy to commit cyber stalking punishable under section 24 (3)(a)(i).

“The offence was committed within Lagos Magisterial District between July and October 2016.

“The place of arrest was listed as Ikoyi/Lekki (Lagos).”

Other details in the form are : “Arrested with exhibits  (Yes); Fingerprint evidence  (No); Confessional statement  (Yes): Found in custody or possession of offensive weapons  (No); Identification by victim or witness  (Yes); Need for further investigation  (Yes).”
