‘This is the legacy she laid down’- Akin Orebiyi

GLOWING Channels Foundation presented a special concert of music, poetry and dance, on Thursday, October 1, 2015, at the main auditorium of University of Lagos, Akoka, Yaba, Lagos in honour of the passage of Mrs. Motunrayo Adefunke Sofowote, the founder of the foundation.

ENCOMIUM Weekly had a chat with one of the organizers, Akin Orebiyi.

Can we meet you, sir?

My name is Akin Orebiyi, a member of Glowing Channels Foundation.

What informed this concert?

The Glowing Channels Foundation was founded by late Mrs. Motunrayo Sofowote.  She began this concert like 18 years ago, before she died last year.  Before her departure, her mandate was to continue this annual music concert.  So, after her departure, we felt we should continue the legacy she laid down.

We deliberately picked October 1, because we felt it is a holiday and it is our Independence anniversary, so people will be free to attend the programme.  Significantly, Madam Motunrayo Sofowote died on September 18, 2014, in Germany, and was buried on October 2, 2014.  So, we felt it is better to utilize October 1, a day before her first immemorial and celebrate her.

How many artistes were at the music concert?

We had 25 participants.  Among them were Yinka Davies, Femi Ogunronbi, Meche from Abuja and so many others.

After Madam Motunrayo Adefunke Sofowote, what have you done differently from what she has been doing when she was alive?

Actually, this is the first major event that has happened after her departure.  But we are hoping to have some other events over the years which would include a raffle draw, awards and charity for those who are in need.
