HipTV is one. How does it feel?

I feel delighted. Very happy. It has been an interesting journey. Today, I tell you everybody is watching HipTV in Nigeria and across the continent, about 44 countries. It’s very great to have achieved this feat within a year. We feel happy and excited because we have been able to create something unique, despite the fact that we have a lot of creative bankruptcy. People finding it difficult to come up with new ideas and concepts, we are able to stand-out. This gives me joy and happiness.

What has been the experience doing this for a year?

I will say it is not totally a new experience because we did HiTV for about five months before we stopped. HipTV has been on since 2007, not as a 24/7 TV channel. Doing these have set us on the right path. But this a new and bigger platform for us, and we’ve been able to learn new things that are really working for us. It’s very exciting and I have enjoyed every single step of the walk. Although, we still have so much to do, we’re not relenting.

How profitable is it?

You don’t start TV today and make money the next day. It’s not property business, it’s not buying and selling and all sorts of businesses that give you instant money. It’s a long term project. The most important thing is to have passion for TV.

Let’s talk about this year’s Headies. What’s unique about it compared to others?

If I tell you, will you still come? The best thing is for you to come and see things yourself on October 25. Don’t let me announce the pregnancy, come and see the baby yourself. We’re working hard to stage the best music awards. Remember, we started in 2006 and each year, we have ways of stepping up our game. This is the 9th edition, it’s definitely going to be unique.

Let’s talk about the choice of Bovi and Toke Makinwa?

Toke hosted the nomination party in 2012 and did the red carpet in 2013, and guess what, I was amazed at her work attitude and culture. You can say anything about Toke, she works very hard; she’s consistent and she goes there to deliver. She’s fantastic.

As for Bovi, everybody knows him and what he’s capable of doing. I don’t need to speak more about him because he’s a brand that speaks for himself. Hence, they are both perfect to host The Headies this year.

Seeing The Headies today, will you say you’re fulfilled?

At all. I am not, but we’re making progress. It’s difficult, not easy at all. It’s tough, but we’re progressing and we’ll soon get there.

What’s your plan for The Headies?

I will keep it to myself until you see us implementing it.
