Edo state is gearing up again to elect another governor on November 12, 2016, when the incumbent, Governor Adams Oshiomhole will be completing his second and final term in office.

The political gladiators from the two-main political parties  APC and PDP in the state are already jostling to replace Governor Adams Oshiomhole.

From Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), that ruled the state for 10 years, there are about five prominent politicians who have made their intentions known to be the next governor of the state on the party platform.

They include:

Senator Ehigie Uzamere. He was a two term member of the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly representing the people of Edo South senatorial district from 2007-2015.

The 60 year old architect from Eredo Local Government Area of the state has thrown his cap into the governorship ring of the state.

Earl Oshao Onaiwu was the Director General of Governor’s Forum when Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau was the chairman of the forum.

The 58 year old graduate of Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo state, was once Special Adviser to Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, when he was the chairman of PDP. He was just 23 when he first walked in the corridors of power as Personal Assistant to Chief Samuel Ogbemudia, who was the governor of old Bendel state.

Onaiwu’s candidacy is highly feasible since the Bini who are more in population, may not want to vote a non-Bini as governor after Oshiomhole in 2016. He is also said to have the support of PDP governors and political heavyweights who are interested in controlling the political soul of the state.

Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu. He was the former Secretary to the State Government during Governor Lucky Igbinedion’s tenure. He later left PDP for defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) where he became the Vice Chairman South-South of the party. He has since retraced his steps back to PDP. He is a lawyer by profession.

Hon. Matthew Aigbuhuenze Iduroyekemwen. He was the former representative of Edo state on the board of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). He was also a two term member of Edo State House of Assembly representing Okha Local Government Constituency. The 50 year old lawyer is seriously eyeing the Dennis Osadebey Government House, Benin.

Dr. Solomon Iyabosa Edebiri. He was the founder of Peoples Progressive Party (PPP) and its governorship candidate in 2007. In 2012, he also contested for the governorship seat but this time around on the platform of ANPP.

He dumped the defunct ANPP in 2014 to join PDP and now wants to contest on the platform of the party. He is 54.
