‘Our wedding is only for family and close friends‘
– 2Face, Don Jazzy and Wande Coal billed to entertain
All roads will lead to Lagos on Saturday, November 23, 2013, for the traditional wedding between songstress, Tiwatope Savage and her beau, Tunji Balogun, otherwise known as Tee Billz.
The lovebirds, their families and friends are doing all it takes to ensure the success of the nuptials, which promises to be superlative. Loads of good wishes have not ceased coming from their fans, some of whom have promised to storm the venue.
But, against people’s expectation that the wedding will be elaborate, the husband to-be has said it’s going to be a family and close friends’ affair.
One of the reasons stated by Tunji, during a phone conversation with ENCOMIUM Weekly shortly after he returned to the country on Thursday, October 31, 2013, is that himself and Tiwa Savage have large families that are enough for the kind of space the venue will accommodate.
Tee Billz has been on vacation in London for weeks, where he spent nice time shopping for wedding items with his wife-to-be.
He said, “We’re making our wedding as lowkey as possible. Our families are large, including our friends, and the venue won’t house everybody. So, we’re printing limited invitation cards.”
ENCOMIUM Weekly’s investigations revealed that few guests will start receiving their invitation cards this week. Already, interested guests have started ordering for their aso ebi, a lace fabric of five yards that goes for N30,000.
Further investigation revealed that Elohor Aisien’s Prive Events will handle event planning. The former super model has been seen lately with the singer, making sure that everything go as planned. A source close to her said, “Elohor is now into event planning and she is the one in charge of Tiwa/Tee Billz wedding. She was with Tiwa Savage during their visit to Maldives Island, the proposed venue for the white wedding. In fact, she just returned from Abuja where she planned Dangote/Indimi’s wedding.”
Mavin crew including Don Jazzy, Dr. Sid, and Wande Coal, who recently left the label will be honouring the first lady of the label. Also slated to perform at the nuptials are 2Face, Wizkid, Banky W, amongst other notable entertainers.
The Isale Eko born singer, who spent most of her life in the U.S, had, on several occasions denied dating Tee Billz. But, since she described her kind of man, it became too obvious that the vivacious singer was referring to Tee Billz, who is also her manager.
She said, “I will like my man to be tall, dark, handsome and must be fit. He must have a good heart, work hard and must care a lot about me.”
On Wednesday, February 6, 2013, Tee Billz officially declared his intention to marry Tiwa Savage. What seemed to be the singer’s 33rd birthday turned out to be an engagement party. On that day, Tee Blizz got down on one knee and Tiwa, though was shocked, didn’t hesitate to say, ‘Yes I do’ in an emotional way, as she put rings into her finger.
The duo made their first public appearance on Saturday, February 16, 2013, at The Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, during the unveiling of Nigerian Idols 12 contestants. Since then, they’ve been seen together at different fora, but have declined to talk about their romance, even when there was a rumour that Tunji has a babymama and love-child in the States.
The beautiful couple ignored rumour mongers as they moved on with their affair. To prove they’re in love, they made a public display of affection for each other, before announcing Saturday, November 23, 2013, as their traditional wedding, while the white wedding holds next year at Maldives Island, an island nation in the Indian Ocean of about two hours flight outside Dubai.
On why the white wedding is next year, a source said, “This year is gone already to stage a wedding of that magnitude. Besides, Tiwa Savage is one of the hottest artistes, and December will be busy for her and Tee Billz.”
Tiwatope Savage is undisputedly one of Nigeria’s finest singers, who stormed the industry in 2010 with Kele Kele Love single. Born in Lagos, Nigeria, her family relocated to England from Nigeria when she was 11.
In one of her interviews with ENCOMIUM Weekly, Tiwa Savage said, “Growing up was very interesting. There were no barriers, I was just free. I had a very healthy upbringing. My parents ensured that I was grounded and I had lovely brothers.”
After graduating with a degree in Business administration from the University of Kent, the gifted song-writer and talented performer started working at The Royal Bank of Scotland. She did backup vocals for George Michael at 16 and lent vocals to other musicians such as Mary J. Blige, Chaka Khan, Blu Cantrell, Emma Bunton, Kelly Clarkson, Andrea Bocelli, and Ms. Dynamite, among others.
Not wanting to be a backup singer forever, Savage, who had performed on stage with 50 Cent, Eminem, Destiny Child, enrolled at Berklee College of Music and graduated with a degree in professional music at the age of 27.
Tiwa Savage established her own label imprint, 323 Entertainment with her manager, Tunji “TJ Billz” Balogun, a 35 year-old indigene of Ogun State, who was formally based in Los Angeles, California, USA. She later joined Don Jazzy’s Mavin Record, where she’s currently the only female singer on the label. She was recently voted amongst the best dressed female acts.
