GOOD things are happening to fair skinned on air personality, Toke Makinwa. Her marriage clocked one a couple of days back. She also got a juicy deal with an online e-commerce store, Payporte.
ENCOMIUM Weekly had an interview with her about her deal, marriage and sundry issues…
Congrats! How does it feel emerging an ambassador for Payporte?
It feels really good. I shot the television commercial last year even without discussing with me about being one of their brand ambassadors. It is a good brand that is being introduced to the country. I love working with new brands, most especially those new in the country. If it is a big brand already, your work will not be that much, so it is a good thing.
Do you shop on Payporte?
Yes, I do. When I shot the television commercial, I bought a skirt from them. I bought a pair of shoes as well. They were all delivered on time. I like the fact that through the commercial, people can reach out to me easily if they have any difficulty with Payporte. As soon as I tag Payporte, they would respond and I get feedback because people will come and thank me for reaching out on their behalf.
What gave you an edge over others?
To be honest, I think the relationship started when I shot the television commercial. A lot of brands will shoot commercial with someone and choose another as their brand ambassador. The same thing might have happened in this situation but I like the fact that they saw me as a bridge between their company and their customers.
What are your roles as the brand ambassador of Payporte?
To create awareness for Payporte. If anybody has a problem with them, they can reach out to Toke. Apart from being the face of the brand, I am interested in the brand. I represent them as well in public. I speak for the brand.
How juicy is the deal?
It is juicy. It is a great deal, thank you. It is a good way to start the year.
Do you believe in Payporte or is it all about the money?
It is not about the money but about the brand. Getting on board Payporte is a union, it is a marriage, it is a big brand that represents quality trend that I believe in. I have shopped there like I told you, I have seen the efficiency in their service.
Congratulations! Your marriage is a year old?
It is like closing your eyes and opening them, that’s how it feels clocking one. We woke up one morning and realized that it is a year already. It is really unbelievable. We have been through a lot. If you are married, you will understand the first year is the most difficult time in marriage. We have had our own fair share, but we somehow pulled it together. That is why we are still here.
What is the greatest thing about being married?
Having a constant friend, 24/7. You always have someone to talk to, you are never out of conversation. I hope we never get out of conversation. You always have someone with you walking through the earth. You have the assurance that you are not alone but there is someone you pray with, play with and hold on to.
How do you create time for the home front coupled with your work?
I think I am blessed to be married to him. I am blessed, I say that every day. He knew me before the Toke Makinwa that the world knows today, that has really helped. He has always known me. He was my greatest fan and cheer leader. At times, when I tell him that I am tired, I don’t want to do this again, he will speak into my ears, “Girl, this is what you have signed up for, get out of bed.” It is a great feeling, I thank God.
We have passed that now. We are two people trying to find our way around life. Sometimes you are happy, sometimes you are not. I think it was because I was a public figure that was why it went far like that. A lot of people go through it, they break up to make up. Boyfriend and girlfriend break up and still come together. Husband and wife fight. There was no deceit. We are now together, we have been together for a year.
What do you cherish most about him?
We are different. He is the calm one, he is a bit quiet. If anyone wants to take advantage of anyone of us, there is always that voice of reasoning that will calm things down and when I feel he is keeping too quiet, I voice out. It is a mix. I think that is exactly how God fashion things.
What are some of the challenges you have been through and how did you resolve them?
Not necessarily challenges. If you get a new job, you and your boss will not smile every day. I think we just need to know each other better. I don’t think they are challenges.
You are a lady of many parts, where do you draw inspirations?
God, prayer has been able to keep me balanced.
Tell us your beauty routine.
I don’t put on make up to sleep. I did and my skin reacted to it. I try to exfoliate my skin at least once in three weeks. No matter how busy you get, try and drink a lot of water. I stopped taking sugary drinks first of January and I have not had any since then.
What has changed about you since you got married?
I don’t think anything has changed, nothing has changed. I don’t think I really have to answer that question, people that know me should do so.
When are you starting a family?
When God says it is time.
As a public figure and a pretty woman, how does it feel seeing every eye on you when you go out for functions?
I am not conscious of people looking at me. I just face where I am going. It is a special feeling, for people to appreciate you wherever you go, it is really good.
How long have you been in broadcasting?
Five, six years.
It has been a lesson, it has been a great journey. It doesn’t end here. I pray, many doors have opened, doors I don’t know would open to me.
If you were not a broadcaster, what would you have been?
I thought I would dance for Shina Peters. Growing up, I thought that was a profession. I used to tell people that when I grow up I will be a dancer and I will dance for Shina. I have always been a fan of Shina Peters.
You like being on Instagram, you post pictures all the time. Why?
It is like a getaway for me. I think when I am too busy and want to let my hair down, I go on Instagram.
Tell us the lessons you have learnt in your one year of marriage.
With God, there is no limitation, there is no difficulty.
What is your favourite food?
Amala, gbegiri and ewedu with a lot of meat, assorted meat.
