1. PRESIDENT BUHARI RETURNS TO ASO ROCK
President Muhammadu Buhari has returned to Aso Rock presidential villa after four days in the United Kingdom. President Buhari’s jet departed London on Monday morning for Abuja.
It would be recalled that the president had last Friday transited to the United Kingdom for unknown reasons after his outing at the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly.
2. BUHARI TO ORDER FORFEITURE OF IPOB’S ASSETS HOME AND ABROAD
President Muhammadu Buhari is set to appoint an administrator to oversee the forfeiture of assets belonging to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to the federal government following the group’s proscription by authorities.
The federal government is set to publish the proscription of IPOB in two national dailies in order to meet the conditions stipulated by the court to finalize the declaration of the group as a terrorist organization.
3. OONI OF IFE, OBA OGUNWUSI, ENTERS 7-DAY SECLUSION FOR OLOJO FESTIVAL
The Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has entered into a 7-day seclusion officially signalling the commencement of this year’s Olojo festival. The seclusion which began on Sunday will last for seven day and will afford the traditional ruler the opportunity to pray for unity, development and economic recovery of the country.
Addressing newsmen before proceeding to Iledi where he would commence the seclusion prayer, Oba Ogunwusi said prayer must be offered for a positive turnaround of Nigeria.
Olojo is the yearly festival in Ile-ife known to celebrate creation of day and night.
4. BUHARI CONGRATULATES ANGELA MERKEL OVER GERMAN ELECTION VICTORY
President Muhammadu Buhari has joined other world leaders and well-wishers to congratulate German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, on her victory at the polls.
According to a statement issued by his spokesman, Femi Adesina, in Abuja on Monday, President Buhari felicitated with the German Chancellor’s party for producing leadership for the country for over 12 years and winning another opportunity to sustain the legacy of good work.
President Buhari wished the German Chancellor a successful tenure.
5. GUNMEN INVADE OLUBADAN PALACE, JOURNALISTS, EX-OYO SSG ESCAPE DEATH
There was commotion at the palace of the Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Adetunji, when four gunmen opened fire during the installation of four traditional rulers by the Olubadan.
The gunmen shot repeatedly in front of the palace daring those inside to come out and engage them.
Three journalists and a chieftain of the Labour Party who was a former Secretary to the Oyo State Government, narrowly escaped death while the shooting lasted.
But the confusion did not stop the coronation from taking place.
6. SOUTH AFRICAN NAVAL CHIEF VISITS NIGERIA
The Chief of the South African Navy, Vice Admiral Mosiwa Samuel Hlongwane said for navies of both countries to function effectively, there must be utmost collaboration between the two.
The south African navy chief stated this while on a guided tour of naval establishments and units in Lagos.
Guided by his Nigerian counterpart Vice Admiral Ibok Ibas, the visit he said will also afford the two countries the opportunity to hold talks on the creation of strategic frame work for information sharing and mutual assistance.
7. NIGERIAN AND JORDANIAN AIR FORCE AGREE TO COLLABORATE
The Nigerian Air Force says it’s ready to collaborate with the Royal Jordanian Air Force to tackle insecurity, caused by terrorism within Nigeria’s borders.
Chief of the Air Staff, Sadique Abubakar, disclosed this when he hosted the Commander of the Jordanian Air Force in Abuja.
The partnership is intended to increase capacity building in the training of Nigerian pilots and technicians.
8. LION ROARS INSIDE CAGE AS GUNMEN INVADE, ABDUCT HEAD OF BENIN ZOO
Lion roars as Gunmen on Sunday evening killed three policemen attached to Ogba Zoo and Nature Park in Benin and abducted the head of the zoo, Dr Andy Ehanire, who is a brother of the Minister of State for Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire.
An eye witness said the Lions were roaring while some tourists were unaware of what was going on at the security gate of the zone.
Edo State police spokesman, DSP Moses Nkombe, who confirmed the killings and abduction on the phone, said the situation has been brought under control.
9. APC DISGRACES SAGAY, DESCRIBES HIM AS A ‘ROGUE ELEPHANT’
The national leadership of the governing All Progressives Congress has issued the statement, launching a blistering attack on the Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Anti-corruption (PACAC), Professor Itse Sagay (SAN).
In the statement, the party described Mr. Sagay as arrogant and a rougue elephant who has no respect for even President Muhammadu Buhari.
The APC says it is responding to an interview Mr. Sagay granted the nation’s newspaper where he criticized the leadership of the fold as “running riot and destroying the party.”
10. BUHARI ORDERS EVACUATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS FROM DOMINICAN ISLAND
Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the immediate evacuation of Nigerian students from the Dominican Island following the damages caused by Hurricane Maria in the area.
According to reports, there are plans to move the students to the U. S. and Europe for the completion of their medical degree programmes.
However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has assigned a senior official to issue the stranded students with temporary travel certificates.
