I WON’T RUN FOR ANY POSITION, SAYS METUH

Olisa Metuh, the National publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declined reports that he was preparing ahead of the party’s national convention scheduled for May, 21. But Metuh said yesterday he would not run for any position irrespective of the offices zoned to the South – East.

He however, promised to continue carrying the image of the party in high esteem during the remaining part of his tenure as the image maker. He finally said, that his love and commitment to the party remains unshaken, especially as they would work to present a strong, big, prosperous and a stable nation.

 

BUHARI RETURNS 2016 BUDGET TO NASS

President Muhammadu Buhari had refused to sign the 2016 budget and has returned the document to the National Assembly, pointing out areas of concerns, that he had to meet the spokesperson of the house of Representatives, Mr. Namdas confirmed it to journalist yesterday but he however refused to mention the areas of concern, urging they would be made known later to the public.

Following the omission and addition of certain projects not proposed by the executive, Mr. President has since withheld his assent. One of such project is the Lagos-Calabar rail project counted as a critical infrastrural focus of the administration.

 

FG DENIES SACKING KACHIKWU 

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has described rumours going on that Kachikwu has been sacked as completely false. As untrue report that Buhari had named Maikanti Baru, NNPC Group Executive Director as a replacement.

Garba – deen Mohammed, the group general manager, public affairs division of the NNPC, said the news is false and untrue and should be ignored by all Nigerians. The minister is currently in his office and has continued to function in the roles assigned to him by the President.

 

SARAKI’S DEFENCE TO BE ARRESTED

During the ongoing trial of Senate President Bukola Saraki at the code of conduct tribunal following an order by Mr. Danladi Umar, the tribunal chairman, that one of the counsel in Saraki’s team, Rapheal Oluyede be apprehended by the police for contempt of the court.

Oluyede had declined to adhere to the instructions of the tribunal chairman and as a matter of fact, he promised to commit Rapheal for contempt of doing his job but for the timely intervention of the prosecutor, Rotimi Jacobs SAN, Oluyede would have been taken away.

 

THREE MEN SENTENCED FOR OFFERING BRIBE TO A POLICE OFFICER

A Dutse Grade 1 Area court in Abuja had on Thursday sentenced three men, Peter Ogu 30, Isa Danjuma 25 and Abubakar Danjuma 25 to seven months imprisonment for offering bribe to an officer. They were arraigned on a two count charge of being in possession of stolen property and offering bribe.
Mr. Ado Ahmed, the presiding officer, sentenced the defendants to seven months imprisonment or N7, 000 option of fine each. He further stated that all sentences will run concurrently.

 

REPS SLAMS ARASE OVER THE REOPENING OF KOGI ASSEMBLY
The House of Representatives ad-hoc committee on Kogi assembly crisis on Thursday met with the inspector general of police, Mr. Solomon Arase on the reopening of the Kogi house of Assembly complex. The House had directed the IGP to seal off the Kogi legislature until the crisis that followed the impeachment of speaker Lawal Momoh Jimoh achieved.

The committee chaired by Rep Femi Gbajabiamila, majority leader, who presided over the investigative hearing, lamented that the IGP had failed to comply with the resolution as breach on Nigerian constitution, adding that it is an undue interference on the activities of the legislature.

 

NIGERIANS NEEDS MORE THAN 5, 000 MW – FASHOLA

Mr. Babatunde Fashola, the Minister of power, works and housing has lamented that 5, 000 megawatts of power was not enough for over 170 Nigerians. The minister made this statement in Abuja yesterday when he received Mrs. Dupe Atoki, the director general of the consumer protection council (CPC).

The former governor, however, said that measures are been taken to enable people get the value of what they have paid for. He promised to set up quality standards in the supply of electricity and further said the Discos are responsible to provide meters for their consumers and so wind down what they had collected.

 

RIVERS ASSEMBLY REFUSES TO SWEAR IN MRS. VICTORIA NYECHE

The Rivers state house of Assembly had yesterday declined to swear in Mrs. Victoria Nyeche of the All Progressives Congress (APC) female lawmaker-elect as member of the Eighth assembly. The speaker Dabotorudima Adam said, he got a court order preventing the house from delivering an oath of office on her pending the decision of court on the matter of impersonation leveled against her.

Wachie in his petition, accused the defendant of addressing herself as member of the Assembly through a letter head, she wrote to the chief judge of Nigeria (CJN). She however, expressed shock, saying what was displayed was a clear indication of a lawless state. She said she would approach her party, APC, for the next step to take.

 

NASS CANNOT FIGHT AGAINST APC GOVT – DOGARA

The speaker, Yakubu Dogara who received a delegation of the APC elders and stakeholders from Kwande/Oshongo federal constituency of Benue state, yesterday has said, the National Assembly will not fight against the APC led administration by overriding a veto on the 2016 budget.

The speaker said, no matter the plans and frustration from people, the executive and parliament will not have any reason over their differences ensued from the 2016 budget passed by the National Assembly. He further said, matters arising in the 2016 budget would be resolved this week. He expressed his condolence to the government and people of Benue state over the incessant incursion, adding that, government had started doing something about it.

 

DEDUCTION OF LOANS FROM STATES’ ALLOCATION STOPPED

The Federal Government has agreed to stop further deductions on loans been realized from the monthly allocation of each state in the federation to allow them meets their responsibility of paying salaries to workers. The stoppage will take effect this April.

Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, the Minister of finance announced this on Thursday while briefing state house correspondence. She said the decision was implemented as a result of delay in the payment of workers salaries. She advised governors to strike out ghost workers, she also promises to checkmate the financial data of states to enhance cordial relationship and understands what government need to do to support the state.
