1. BUHARI RE-APPOINTS UCHECHI ORJI AS MD, SOVEREIGN INVESTMENT AUTHORITY

President Muhammadu Buhari has re-appointed Uchechi Orji as Managing Director of the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority.
Orji was first appointed in 2012 for an initial term of five years, renewable for another five-year term.
Under his leadership, the NSIA made remarkable strides, with an asset of more than $2 billion, which has been invested in Infrastructure, Economic Stabilization and Future Generation Funds.
The President also approved the nomination of Isa Hayatu Chiroma as the Director General of the Nigerian Law School.
Chiroma will succeed Olanrewaju Onadeko, who is due for retirement.
2. POLICE LETTER DEMOTING LAGOS CP NOT AUTHORIZED – OKIRO
The Chairman, Police Service Commission, Dr. Mike Okiro, has dismissed a letter from the commission purportedly demoting the Lagos State Acting Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police.
He stated that the letter was not authorised and should be ignored.
The commission’ s Permanent Secretary , Musa Istifanus , had written to the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, about the demotion of Imohimi to his former rank of DCP.
But Okiro, in a telephone interview on Thursday, explained that he had told the IG to ignore the letter, adding that he would discuss the matter with Istifanus.
He added that, Acting CP Imohimi has not committed any disciplinary offence and the Force Disciplinary Committee has not recommended him for demotion.
3. BUHARI ASKED US TO FOCUS ON NORTHERN NIGERIA – WORLD BANK
The President of the World Bank Group, Jim Yong Kim , said on Thursday that the bank had concentrated on the northern region of Nigeria in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s request.
Kim and the Managing Director, International Monetary Fund , Christine Lagarde , who spoke at separate press conferences in Washington DC , United States , also advised Buhari to invest in things that would enhance economic growth. According to the World Bank boss, the bank will invest in human capital in other parts of Africa in order to prepare the continent for the next phase of growth.
4. PATIENCE JONATHAN DEBUNKS EFCC’S CLAIM OF N2.1BN BELONGING TO LATE MOTHER
Former First Lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, has described reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, traced N2.1 billion to her dead mother’s account as spurious, baseless and intended to mislead the public.
Mrs. Jonathan in a statement signed by her Chief Press Secretary, Belema Meshack-Hart, said: ‘’We wish to state categorically that the allegations are false and a grand design by EFCC to tarnish the image of the former first lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan.
He claimed Mrs. Patience Jonathan does not own Magel Resort Ltd neither did she open the hotel’s account with Zenith Bank. The late mother of the former first lady should be allowed to rest in peace.
5. BUHARI URGED TO SUSPEND BARU, KACHIKWU
The Young Progressive Party has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to suspend and investigate the allegation and counter allegation of misappropriation and gross abuse of office against Dr. Maikanti Baru and Dr. Ibe Kachukwu in order to ascertain the level of culpability in the fraudulent award of contracts to the tune of 26 billion dollars without following due process by the former and the probe of the later tenure as GMD NNPC.
Chairman of YPP, Comrade Bishop Amakirialso, in a statement, called for the immediate appointment of a substantive Minister of Petroleum Resources who can effectively see to the day to day running of the Ministry and whom Nigerians can hold accountable for any breach of public trust.
6. SOUTHWEST APC LEADERS THROW 2019 PRESIDENTIAL TICKET OPEN
Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South West, yesterday evening rose from “exclusive stakeholders” meeting in Agodi Government House, Ibadan, and declared that the presidential ticket of the party is open to all as the march towards 2019 general elections gets underway.
Speaking on behalf of the APC stakeholders at the end of the meeting, Chief Akande said they were in Ibadan as a follow up to the January this year’s meeting they held in the same town, to appraise the state of affairs of the party and how the zone was fairing in the scheme of things.
Asked of the position of the party on President Buhari’s rumoured second term ambition, Akande said, “He has not told us he is running for 2019. Anybody in our party is free to become the president of Nigeria as long as he indicates interest.”
7. BOMB, GUNS, OTHERS FOUND IN NNAMDI KANU’S HOME – POLICE
The Commissioner of Police in Abia state, Anthony Ogbizi on Thursday during a chat with with newsmen in Umuahia said that items such as gin, bombs and other incriminating weapons were recovered in Nnamdi Kanu’s home during a joint operation by security personnel, including the Police and Army, in the state.
The police chief said that similar joint operations would be carried out intermittently in Kanu’s residence, anytime they received intelligence report that offensive weapons were brought to the place.
8. MAN BEHEADS SISTER DURING HOT ARGUMENT IN BENUE STATE
A man was almost lynched by an angry mob in Otukpa, Ogbadibo LGA of Benue state after it was discovered that he had beheaded his sister.
Identified simply as Jonah, the man was said to have beheaded his sister during an hot argument over some issue Thursday morning.
He is believed to be mentally derailed.
A community leader, Johnson Agada added that the young man was caught by the youths after he tried to flee the community. However, investigation is ongoing on the alleged matter.
9. BUHARI SET TO REVIEW PRIVATIZATION OF POWER SECTOR
The federal government has hinted on reviewing the privatization of the nation’s power sector.
On Thursday, President Muhammadu Buhari insinuated that the privatisation of power plants in the country would soon be reviewed to enable government restructure their ownership and capacity to deliver value to the people.
Speaking at the closing of the 23rd Nigerian Economic Summit, NES in Abuja Buhari hinted that the review would involve the restructuring of the ownership of the power plants to ensure that owners who do not demonstrate sufficient capacity to operate the facilities cede their stakes to new investors.
10. PDP SHOCKED OVER BUHARI’S $5.5BN LOAN REQUEST
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday said it is shocked over the plan by the government of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to seek a loan of $5.5bn.
The party added that the loan would plunge Nigeria into further debt, and consciously mortgage the future of unborn generations through needless and mindless borrowing of the sum.
A statement by the spokesman of the party, Prince Dayo Adeyeye said “Like other well meaning Nigerians, we consider this new bid for a foreign loan of $5.5 billion being sought by the administration of President Buhari as an attempt to push the nation down into the black hole of debt that will affect negatively, the future of this nation.
