1. POLICE DESTROY 5 SHRINES IN IKORODU

The Lagos State Police Command said it has demolished five shrines in Ikorodu allegedly belonging to members of the dreaded cult group, Badoo. The state Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, led a team of police officers and bulldozers to Agbowa in Ikorodu to demolish the shrines as part of efforts to rid the communities of Badoo members.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Olarinde Famous-Cole, confirmed the raid on the shrines believed to be used by members of the ritual cult group, adding that most people who were unfortunate to board wrong commercial buses, are usually taken to such shrines.
2. NASU, SSANU SUSPEND STRIKE FOR ONE MONTH
The non-teaching staff of Nigerian universities on Thursday suspended their 11-day-old strike after deliberating with the federal government. However the staff, members of three unions, NASU, SSANU, and NAAT, said the suspension of the strike will only last for a month.
Sam Ugwoke, the national president of the Joint Action Committee of the three unions, said the strike was being suspended for a month to allow the government meet their demands.
He enjoined government to “ensure compliance” with agreements reached with the unions.
3. PRESIDENT BUHARI TO SPEND 4 DAYS IN LONDON
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, says President Muhammadu Buhari will spend only four days in London after which he will return to Nigeria. Adesina, however, did not state the reason for Buhari’s visit.
The President’s spokesman said, “We just landed in London. The President is in transit; to be back in Nigeria on Monday.”
The President had departed New York for London after attending the United Nations General Assembly.
Unconfirmed reports have it that he had returned to London for medical treatment.
4. CUSTOMS INTERCEPT ANOTHER STOCK OF 470 RIFLES AT LAGOS PORT
The Nigerian Customs service has confirmed the interception of another 470 high caliber rifles at the Tincan Island port in Lagos.
This is the second seizure in one month and the fourth this year.
The consignment was also imported from Turkey and is the third in the course of five months.
Customs says the consignment was also falsely declared and concealed in a twenty foot container as pipes.
5. APC STALWART BOLA ILORI ATTACKED AT RESTRUCTURING FORUM IN AKURE
The All Progressives Congress committee meeting on true federalism held at international event centre of Ondo state in Akure was almost ruined by an attack on the Osun state commissioner for regional integration, Bola Ilori.
The meeting which was chaired by Rachel Akpabio received recommendations from participants from Ekiti, Osun and Ondo States. Trouble started when Ilori was about to be interviewed by some journalists and some thugs pounced on him.
He accused the secretary to the state Government, Ifedayo Abegunde as the brain behind the attack, but the SSG cleared himself of any wrong doing.
6. OHANAEZE NDIGBO VISITS SOKOTO, RESTATES COMMITMENT TO UNITY
Sokoto state Governor Aminu Tambuwal has assured all non-indigenes living in the state of adequate security and safety.
Tambuwal gave the assurance when he hosted a delegation of the Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo at the Sokoto state House.
President General of the Igbo Socio-cultural group, John Nwodo urged all Nigerians to remain committed to the peace and unity of the
nation.
The visit became necessary following the clash between the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra and the Nigeria Army.
7. SHERIFF VISITS OSINBAJO
Recently ousted Peoples Democratic Party caretaker Chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff , on Thursday visited Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa , Abuja.
Osinbajo went into the closed-door meeting with Sheriff shortly after presiding over a meeting of the National Economic Management Team.
There had been reports that the All Progressives Congress had approached Sheriff to join its fold but the Borno State chapter of the APC had vehemently denied it.
After the meeting which held for less than two hours, Sheriff refused to speak with State House Correspondents when he was approached.
8. NIGERIA POLICE PROMOTES SLAIN POLICE OFFICER DURING IPOB/ARMY CLASH
The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has confirmed a post-humous promotion on the late Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Cyril Nwosu who was killed when suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) attacked and burnt the police post in Ariaria, Aba.
The inspector general who paid a visit to Abia State to show solidarity with the state government over the recent crisis, said the crisis was a trial to all Nigerians, but that the country had come out stronger and appealed to all Nigerians to make the unity of Nigeria a priority.
Responding, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu assured the police boss that the current peace in the state would be sustained.
9. LAGOS COMMAND ARRESTS NINE POLICEMEN FOR EXTORTION
The Commissioner of Police in charge of the Lagos State Police Command, Edgal Imohimi, said on Thursday that nine policemen, have been arrested for extorting money from motorists .
Imohimi told the News Agency of Nigeria that the arrest was a follow- up to his warning to policemen in the command to guide against corruption and unprofessional conduct.
He urged the executive and members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers to warn their members from being used by unscrupulous policemen as tools of extortion .
10. PROFS, SANS, OTHERS DISAGREE ON COURT ORDER BANNING IPOB
Opinions of legal experts were divided on Thursday on the order of the Federal High Court, Abuja banning the Indigenous People of Biafra, which also classified the agitators as a terrorist organisation.
However, the immediate past Lagos State Solicitor-General, Mr. Lawal Pedro (SAN) a human rights advocacy group, Access to Justice; activist lawyer, Mr . Ebun- Olu Adegboruwa, and IPOB faulted the order of Justice Kafarati, saying it had no legal precedent.
While some maintained that the order has no legal weight and remained binding until it was set aside, other Professors of Law, argued that the order of the court was valid and backed by law and fact.
