BIZARRE ATTACK IN ENUGU

Eight persons were arrested over the slave war at Alor Uno in Nsukka Local Government Area of the state. The matter ensued when a young man from Ejuona was ran after by youths with machete for taking a road he was not supposed to follow.

The youths, however, in the early hours of yesterday attacked one Emmanuel Onah and broke in to his house but the police was later involved and about eight persons were arrested. The police area commander for Nsukka, invited some leaders for a peace meeting  at government house today with governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

NIGER DELTANS BENEFITS FROM NDDC

Mrs.  Ibim Semenitari, the acting Managing director of Niger Delta Development Commission,  NDDC, had over the weekend,  said that it was the right and obligations of government to see to the needs of citizens. He made this statement in an inauguration of a completed road projects made by NDDC in Ika South and Ika North –  East Local Government flag off and distribution of tractors for mechanized farming in the state.

She appreciated the turnout of the people in their large number, over the completion and commissioning of the roads in the state, she enjoins the people that the NDDC was determined to better their lot and promote agriculture for increased food production and Food sufficiency in the country.

PDP PLANS TO TAKE OVER THE SENATE PRESIDENCY SEAT

The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), chief John Odigre –  Oyegun, publicly announced that the party will not be considerate if a member of another party take charge of the seat of the Senate President,  Dr. Bukola Saraki, eventually he leaves.

He said some members of the opposition party are planning to occupy the seat that is not yet vacant. Chief Oyegun revealed that Ike Ekweremadu is a possible replacement to succeed Saraki based on their moves recently as Saraki is losing support already.

CRISIS IN NASS

Following the president’s administration to make the agric sector its main interest despite the dilemma in the country, seems to be stagnant as new development arised in allocation to the sector in the 2016 budget passed by the National Assembly.

Although the speaker made it known to the house that all hands are on deck and the budget will soon be revisited this week.  Senators are still worried at the development over the insertion of projects without prior knowledge of others.

FALANA NOT IN SUPPORT OF THE CCB, CCT ACTS

Femi Falana (SAN), human rights lawyer and activist, has said that the sudden amendment of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) and Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) Acts is not in order, as it contradict the Constitution of the country.

In a letter to the house, he explained that they lack the power to enact laws, which have the same constitutional provision. He stated that though deliberations has not started on the bills for amendments. He therefore, urged the house not to carry on with the amendment.

PROVOKED IGBO are LAMENTing – EKWEREMADU

The Federal Government was yesterday accused by the deputy Senate President over allegedly provoking the Igbo and warned that things will not go well, if the Igbo are not given their due respect which they deserve.

Prior to the delegation received from the Ezzeagu chapter, he encourage the people to be calm as they are going through trying periods, they are been provoked everyday and held in low esteem. He further promised to provide a portable water in the next four years for the Ezzeagu Council and other amenities for them to enjoy.

KOGI ASSEMBLY CRISIS HEARS SUIT TODAY

The suit over the alleged impeachment of Kogi State House of Assembly speaker, Mr. Momoh Lawal will continue at the Abuja division today.
The date was fixed after the application of the plaintiff for deliberate service of the court process on the five pro- impeachment law makers.  Although, the National Assembly has taken over the responsibilities of the state Assembly,  pro-impeachment lawmakers were said to be carrying on the business of the house.

CUSTOMS SEIZED N572M CONTRABAND

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Federal operations unit, zone ‘A’, Lagos has taken hold of various contraband items realized to be N572 millions, this was as a result of prohibited items such as imported frozen poultry products, foreign parboiled rice, vehicles, vegetable oil, trucks of unprocessed teak woods and other general merchandise.

The controller lamented that what prompt the seizure of the frozen poultry products remarkable was the state of how it was hidden to divert the attention of the operatives. He warned rice importers to adhere strictly to the latest policy or be ready to face the full wrath.

BENUE: TSAV REJECTS PROGRAMME

Former Lagos commissioner of police, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav has expressed worry over the increase of crime in Benue state, describing the amnesty programme set up by governor Samuel Ortom as a ‘fluke’, set up to provide soft landing for a one time dreaded criminal, Terwase Akwaza,  popularly referred to as ‘Ghana’.

He expressed dissatisfaction over the way the governor is handling the affairs of the state, he said, if the amnesty is working,  why are there still much guns and killings in the state. He therefore urge the Federal Government to take drastic step to stop the lingering disruption in the state.

NIGERIAN FORMER GOVERNOR DIED AT THE AGE OF 76

Former governor of the Awka Ibom State Navy Captain Joseph Adeduro Adeusi (rtd)  has died at the age of 76. Adeusi was military governor of Awka Ibom State from August 1996 to August 1998 during Sani Abacha regime.

Captain Adeusi was succeeded by Group Captain Eyepeiyah John Ebiye who handed over power to a democratically elected governor, Obong Victor Attah on May 29, 1999. He was usually seen during some essential state government events like anniversary celebrations of the state with other former military governors of the state.  At the government house, prayer meeting Saturday was observed a minute silence in his honour.
