NNPC TO DRILL FOR OIL IN CHAD BASIN THIS YEAR

Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, the Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigeria National Petroleum has confirmed that, the NNPC will drill oil in the Chad Basin in the last quarter so as to increase the nation’s oil and gas reserves and upgrade the economy, as well as creating job opportunities.

He invited both the private and public ventures across the countries to help partner with the NNPC to possibly support the energy resources in Nigeria. “The decision to diversify our business portfolio is about all of us and about the future of our country, the vision is clear and we are determined not to fail”, Kachikwu said.

 

GUNMEN ATTACKED DEPUTY GOVERNOR OF EDO STATE

The deputy governor of Edo State, Pius Odubu was attacked on his convoy during a visit to the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat in Auchi, headquarters of Etsako West Local Government Area. Obudu who relieved the incident and called on the police to arrest the suspects he singled out in the attack but governor Adams Oshiomhole declined the idea saying it was caused by thugs loyal to his campaign.

However, it was confirmed that eight persons including a Department of State Services (DSS) officer and a police inspector in Obudu’s entourage were injured and are currently hospitalized in Benin. The police commissioner in the state, who condemned the attacks, said the command is yet to make any arrest. He stated that, although it had names of suspects and would not tolerate any act of violence from any quarter.

 

WE WON’T FAIL –  BUHARI

President Muhammadu Buhari said yesterday that, his administration will not fail to deliver its electoral promises, as it is set to tackle all its socio-economic ills, the nation is undergoing. The president stated that, his administration is prepared to proffer solutions, so as to have no room for excuses to tackle all the societal ills in the nation’s economy.

He assured Nigerians that his administration will bring about positive change in the lives of the citizens to fight corruption for the betterment of Nigeria. The president who was represented by Dr. Ngige said in view of the current economic realities in the country, there was a need for paradigm shift, adding that, what defines greatness is the way and manner such challenges are tackled and overcome.

 

PERPETRATORS SHOULD BE BROUGHT TO BOOK

Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, Sultan of Sokoto and president-general has said, the killings and attack on the communities of Agatu in Benue, Nnibo in Enugu state and some parts of Nasarawa state as crime, urging the government to bring those responsible to book and they should undergo a thorough justice.

He lamented the incident as absurd and unfortunate as people ascribe the menace on ethnic and religious grounds to barter the restoration of peace and security in Nigeria. He however, urge Nigerians to be cautious of packaging crimes on religious and ethnic garments, adding to the fact that, crimes are not good and whoever commits them is a criminal. He therefore said, security agencies should be fully involved to stop this dilemma.

 

20 PERSONS, 83 COWS KILLED IN NASARAWA BY GUNMEN

Gunmen over the weekend in Adayi, Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa state killed about 83 cows and at Loko, 20 persons have been confirmed dead. It was suspected that, Agatu Gunmen might be behind the killings because the Agatus had wanted to take possession of the cows in their boats but the cattle went berserk as a result of sporadic shootings.

Alhaji Abubakar Ahmed Sabo who is the Mai Loko, said the killing is absurd, adding that, the Loko development area has only two police officers with no riffles and appealed for more security presence, urging the fulani not to attack the Agatu people of Benue because the government will interfere soon to stop the clashes  between the two states.

 

TOMPOLO BLAMES OIL FIRMS FOR PIPELINE ATTACKS

The former Niger Delta militant leader, Chief Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo) has advised security agencies to investigate activities of oil companies in Niger Delta for the rate of attacks and vandalization on pipeline sector. He blamed the oil firms like the Forcados crude expert line in Burutu, Delta state was responsible for the attacks and Not him.

He appealed to servicing companies to go about their normal activities to see to the econonic stability of the pipeline, adding that he will not go into violence because of his case with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), or stage war with the Federal Government. He therefore urged president Muhammadu Buhari and the Federal Government to look inward in search of those behind the recent attacks as he said, he cannot be involved in pipeline vandalism and other criminal activities prior to the role he played in safeguarding and protecting crude oil and gas facilities in the last administration.

 

OSUN DIDN’T MISUSE BAILOUT FUNDS –  AREGBESOLA

Gov. Rauf Aregbesola, the Osun State Governor has yesterday during the workers’ day event at Osogbo Township stadium said, there was no truth in the rumour that Osun State was among States listed by the anti graft body and other related offences commission (ICPC) on the disbursement of bail-out cash, adding that nothing of such happened.

He however, assured workers that, the worst was over and that the meeting governors had with the president about welfare of the states was fruitful. Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress in Osun State, Comrade Babatunde Jacob Adekomi, noted the commitment of workers despite the harsh economic conditions as they troop out to celebrate the workers day.

 

CATHOLIC CHURCH FILED SUIT AGAINST EKITI GOVT OVER EDUCATION TAX

The Catholic Diocese of Ekiti has sued Ekiti government against the high demands on primary school pupils and secondary schools by the Ekiti State Government. The church wants the court to declare that the defendants could not impose education development levy on pupils and schools, especially when forced on them to pay by both the local and state governments.

Diocesan Bishop Most Rev. Felix Ajakaye expressed shock at the closure of seven Catholic schools even as some of them are preparing for their NECO examination of which followed the breakdown of negotiations between Diocese and government representatives. The cleric said, as a law abiding body, the church was taking steps to seek judicial resolution of the matter.

 

POLICE DEPLOY 2 HELICOPTERS TO SEARCH FOR EX-MINISTER

Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase had released two police helicopters in search of former minister of State for Education, Senator Iyabo Anisulowo, who was allegedly kidnapped by some armed men in Yewa North, last Wednesday while returning from her farm in Igbo gila. The state Police Public Relations Officers, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the choppers that arrived the state, Saturday have been patrolling hideouts in the state with search parties.

The Ogun state police commissioner, gave assurance that the former minister will soon be rescued unharmed and the abductors will be caught. Though, no ransom made, the kidnappers had not contacted the family yet.

 

NASS WILL NOT SUPPORT THE CREATION OF GRAZING RESERVES –  EKWEREMADU

The deputy Senate President, Chief Ike Ekweremadu whole addressing newsmen yesterday after a meeting of the southeast governors and stakeholders in Enugu, says the National Assembly will not support the creation of grazing reserves in the country because there was no bill on the creation of grazing reserves before them. He urged the press to strike out reports on it, adding that it was only but a mere rumour.

The meeting which was held following the recent attack by the herders in the state, look at reasons and approaches to protect the people and ensure it did not happen again. Though, not all governors were in attendance but the meeting was however rescheduled within the week, as crucial issues would be tackled and ironed out.
