EXPLOSION KILLS SOLDIER, 4 OTHERS 

The Nigerian Army, yesterday, said an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), planted by the Boko Haram sect has killed one soldier and four others at Biu in Borno state. The IED exploded when a tricycle (keke) stepped on it.

Four persons, among them, a woman and her baby and two other males were said to have died on the spot while three others sustained injuries and were rushed to Biu General Hospital. However, the soldier died on the road before they got to the hospital. Operatives has since been mobilized to carry out further search in the area.

 

WE ARE TAKING TIME TO RECONCILE – MAKARFI 

Makarfi, former two-term governor of Kaduna state and a caretaker committee chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ahmed Makarfi, said his leadership is taking time to reconcile all aggrieved members of the party and as a result need prayers in order to reform the party.

As part of the ongoing reconciliation effort, Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson and former Jigawa state governor Alhaji Sule Lamido over the weekend held a two-hour closed-door meeting in Bamania town, Jigawa state. Dickson who said he was in Jigawa to seek support from an elder of the party described Alhaji Sule Lamido as one who can resolve the lingering crisis in the party.

 

SUSPECT STEALS MOTORCYCLE DURING FOURSQUARE SUNDAY SERVICE

The congregation at The Foursquare Church, Magboro, Ogun state, were stunned on Sunday after a suspected thief sneaked into the church and stole a motorcycle belonging to one of the worshippers. But for the alertness of the security guards on the church premises, the suspect would have escaped with the motorcycle.

Upon his arrest, the suspect who identified himself as Raymon and later Ramoni, said he took to robbery because he was hungry and it was his first time of committing a crime. The Ogun state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident and the case is under investigation.

 

NO SALARY FOR STRIKING WORKERS – FAYOSE 

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has said that only workers who are not on strike would be paid their salaries. The governor noted that the state was handicapped by the continuous stride in statutory allocations from the federation account to pay one month salary to workers, adding that Internally Generated Revenue was still inadequate to cover the short fall.

Governor Fayose further blamed the poor state of finance in the state on indiscriminate borrowing by the ousted Kayode Fayemi administration. He however, called on the Federal Government to use dialogue to resolve the Niger Delta issue and stem the tide of incessant bombing of oil facilities that is impeding the flow of revenue to the nation’s coffers.

 

WIKE SET UP AMAECHI TO PREVENT HIM FROM MINISTERIAL JOBS –  SAGAY

Prof. Itse Sagay had said yesterday that Rivers governor, Nyeson Wike deliberately setup an investigation panel to probe his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi and subsequently issued a white panel on the probe in order to block his chances of being appointed a minister.

On why panel raised by Wike to investigate Amaechi was not followed to letter or taken over by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), he said the panel lacked credibility. Sagay also said in the next six months, all corruption cases will be concluded. He further said that, if anyone has any evidence against any APC members suspected to have looted fund should come forward and report such a politician.

 

HOW TO RESOLVE POWER CHALLENGES IN INDUSTRIAL CLUSTER

Following the failure of government’s effort to resolve the power challenges of Nigeria’s manufacturing sector over the years, operators in the country now take steps to generate his own electricity. The manufacturers body is establishing an Independent Power Project (IPP) team that will facilitate provision of power for all the 24 manufacturing clusters in the country without relying on the national grid.

The power group recently organized a presentation meeting for private power generation companies as it prepares to commence with two clusters in Lagos, Henry Carr and Amuwo Odofin.

 

CURRENT ECONOMIC CRISIS CAUSED BY JONATHAN’S CHOICES – DOGARA 

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara has traced current economic crisis to what he described as “easy choices made by former president Goodluck Jonathan”. Dogara who spoke during the child dedication service of a member of the house, Olusegun Odebunmi held at The Citizens Church (TCC), Abuja called on Nigerians especially Christians, to pray for God’s intervention.

Dogara maintained that Christians no matter the situation, should see reason to celebrate Democracy Day. He urged members to turn to God for divine intervention instead of murmuring and lamenting.

 

MASSOB MARKS DECLARATION OF BIAFRA TODAY 

Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has declared today a public holiday to commemorate the declaration of the Republic of Biafra by late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegu Ojukwu on May 30, 1967. Leader of the group, Mr. Uchenna Madu said today’s holiday is to honour fallen and living Biafran heroes.

Addressing newsmen in Onitsha yesterday, Nnewi South Regional Administrator, Chief Anthony A. Nwodo said, people are free to go about their businesses without molestation from anybody. He called on Igbo leaders to support Chief Ralph Uwazuruike in his effort to actualize the sovereign state of Biafra.

 

FG, EX-MILITANT MEET, VOWS TO END BOMBING 

Federal government and former Niger Delta militants rose from a meeting at the weekend and pledge to work together to put a stop to bombings and pipelines vandalism in the country. The Special adviser to the president on Niger Delta matters and coordinator of the amnesty programme, Brigadier General Paul Boroh, expressed optimism that the outcome of the meeting would end the circle of violence in the region.

Brigadier-Gen. Boroh who spoke to journalists after the meeting, said the bombings in the Niger Delta was inflicting pains on Nigerians and reducing the economic fortune of the country. He called on those carrying out the bombings to discuss whatever issues they have appropriately rather than resort to other means.

 

RESTRAIN SECURITY AGENTS, IPOB TELLS OBIANO 

Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has urged Anambra state governor, Chief Wille Obiano and Security Chiefs to refrain their personnel from attacking its members during the remembrance of Biafran heroes today.

A statement by the Media and Publicity Officer of IPOB, Mr. Emma Powerful alleged that security agents have been unnecessarily creating tension in the state. He insisted that IPOB was a non-violent organization bent on the restoration of Biafra.
