FOUR DIE IN LAGOS-KANO TRAIN ACCIDENT

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), had yesterday, confirmed the death of four people in the train accident that occurred on Saturday in Jebba. Speaking to Rauf Akinloye, the Assistant Director in charge of publicity in the corporation, opened up that three other passengers sustained injuries in the accident involving the Kano-bound train.

The governor of Kwara State, Abdulfarah Ahmed had condoled with the families of the deceased, describing the accident as painful and unfortunate, as a result of a brake failure at Jebba. He however, assured travellers of safety life and property as rail transportation is still one of the safest means of traveling.

 

2016 BUDGET TO BE IMPLEMENTED TILL MAY 2017

The 2016 budget signed on Friday by President Muhammadu Buhari will be effective till May, 2017. Ita Enag, the Senior Special Assistant to the president stated this on Sunday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. He said, the budget will run a full course of 12 months as introduced by the National Assembly to ensure full implementation of the budget.

Mr. Enag thanked Nigerians for their patience and support during the budget crisis. Adding that, they had learnt a lot from the crisis to speak less and work more. He said, N6 billion has been provided for the take-off on the road project in the 2016 budget. He further promised, the road will ease the suffering of the people.

 

SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS ARRESTED

The police in Bayelsa State have detained three suspected kidnappers, Junior Prince 29, David Okpara 23 and Samuel Yellow, alias Sammy. They were said to have abducted the wife of Dr. Uche Nwachukwu, Immaculate, at Otiotio in the Yenagoa Local Government of Bayelsa.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa State command, Mr. Asinim Butswat, said the suspects confessed and revealed that Samuel Yellow initiated the plot but upon interrogation, the suspects led police to the house of Samuel at Okutukutu, Yenagoa and he was apprehended.

 

I WON’T CONTEST 2019 PRESIDENCY – ROCHAS

Owelle Rochas Okorocha who is the governor of Imo State and the Chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC, governors’ forum has said, he will not contest for the coming 2019 presidential election because the president has so far displayed leadership qualities and needed to be encouraged.

The governor disclosed that, he had been running for the seat of the presidency until God said to him to settle for the Imo governorship. He stated that in just one year, President Buhari has shown courage, strength and maturity and as a matter of fact, needed to be supported and encouraged.

 

ALAMIEYESEIGHA, AUDU, IBORI’S LONDON MANSIONS EXPOSED

Following president Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to London for an Anti-corruption submit, a United Kingdom based media revealed the London mansions of deceased former governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, Abubakar Audu of Kogi State of which, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) will be at the event which will commence on Tuesday (tomorrow).

Pictures of the palatial homes were published including those of the convicted ex governor of Delta state, Mr. James Ibori, who is still serving time in a UK prison. According to a source, he lamented that the UK banks were not doing enough to curb corruption and urge banks to be more accountable.

 

PDP BoT RECEIVES PETITIONS

The Board of Trustees of the Peoples of the Peoples Democratic Party has been given petitions by different groups within the party on how to render solutions to the crisis ensuing in the party. It was however gathered that, the BoT of the party would consider the petition before it, aimed at putting the party safe ahead of its national convention taking effect on May 21, in Port Harcourt, Rivers state capital.

Stakeholders of the party are saying that, Ali Modu Sheriff should not run for the same office who hails from North-East while others are still contesting to be zoned to the South-East. The petitions centres on the zoning of the national offices. It was gathered that, a governor from the south-south signified his intention to be at the meeting scheduled for Thursday in Abuja.

 

NPA WAREHOUSE COLLAPSES

A building had collapsed at the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) at Area 1,sea port in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital, on Saturday evening, within an old warehouse where items were stored. It was not really disclosed last night what led to the sudden collapse of the building but a source said, it was corrosion.

However, five persons were working at the warehouse when the disaster happened leaving the five persons in a state of death. Although the ports police could not be reached to confirm the incident but police spokesman Ahmad Muhammad, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), has said the area is not among his jurisdiction.

 

PDP CHIEFTAINS WANT UZODINMA SUSPENDED

Some chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Orlu Imo State have lamented that, Senator Hope Uzodinma be suspended from the party because of his nefarious act to party progress during the last ward and local government congresses.

This came as another group praised Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu and former deputy speaker, House of Representatives, Chief Emeka Ihedioha, for encouraging a democratic and peaceful congress in Owerri senatorial zone. However, the Owerri League of Patriots, OLP, describe Iwuanyanwu and Ihedioha as true democrats who have paved ways for others to follow and allow people to choose party leaders.

 

CIVIL SERVANT APPREHENDED FOR STEALING TRANSFORMER PARTS

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has held Mr. Julius Adetokunbo a senior civil servant with the Osun State Ministry of Works for allegedly stealing some components of a transformer with his counterpart Muideen Agunbiade. However, it was discovered during a stop-and-search operation, when the transformer’s part inside a Nissan sunny car was found by officers of the NSCDC, on their way to where they would be sold.

The NSCDC officer, Ayodele said they would be charged to court soon. When interrogated, the civil servant disclosed that, his involvement for the first time in this act, was as a result of lack of money to pay the school fee of his children.

 

PRESIDENCY SETUP MONITORING TEAM TO STOP LOOTING AND ENFORCE IMPLEMENTATION

Following the implementation of 2016 budget and preventing of looted funds, the presidency plans to engage the services of experts in the area of monitoring the bill to avoid the misuse of the current budget like the previous ones. He urged Nigerians that he would take any measure to make it work in their interest.

It was gathered that, the team might be set up as soon as Buhari returns to Abuja from his official trip to the United Kingdom this week. A top official opened up that all the key national projects removed by the National Assembly, had been fully restored and signed into law by President Buhari last Friday and most of the projects would takeoff this year.
