- OSINBAJO SUBMITS PANEL REPORT ON LAWAL, OKE TO BUHARI
Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo has finally submitted the Presidential investigation panel report on allegations against Babachir Lawal and Director General NIA, Ayo Oke to President Muhamamdu Buhari. This is coming after 3 months that the Osinbajo’s led committee had completed investigations into the matter.
The panel investigated allegations of violations of law and due process made against Lawal in the award of contracts under the Presidential Initiative on the North East while it probed Oke on the discovery of large amounts of foreign and local currencies by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in a residential apartment at Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos, for which NIA is laying claim.
- SULTAN ANNOUNCES SEPTEMBER 1AS EID-EL-KABIR DAY
Sa’ad Abubakar, sultan of Sokoto, has declared September 1 as Eid-el-Kabir day, following the sighting of the new moon on Tuesday. This is contained in a statement signed by Sambo Junaidu, chairman, advisory committee on religious affairs to the Sokoto sultanate council.
The statement said that following the development, Muslims in Nigeria would observe Sallah on the said day. It added that the sultan felicitates with all Muslims and wished them Allah’s guidance, blessings, and protection.
The statement also quoted Abubakar as urging Muslims to continue to live in peace and engage in continuous prayers for the development and progress of the country and the world at large.
- NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES ADMIT CANDIDATES BELOW 120 MARKS THROUGH BACK DOORS – JAMB REGISTRAR
The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Oloyede has claimed that academic institutions had been admitting candidates with marks below 120 in the past through the back doors, and that the new approach is only aimed at ensuring transparency, and to curb capital flight abroad by Nigerian students.
Prof. Oloyede condemned the criticisms that have continued to trail the announcement of the cut-off marks for admissions into universities, polytechnics, colleges of education and monotechnics for the 2017/2018 academic session.
He described those accusing the examination body of lowering the nation’s academic standard of being ignorant of facts, saying Nigerians are always too quick to pass judgements without studying issues.
- ASUU MIGHT CALL OFF NATIONWIDE STRIKE ON SATURDAY
Executives of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, are set to hold a National Executive Council meeting on Friday to determine the direction of the ongoing national strike and find a lasting solution to terminate the strike.
National branches of the union equally held meetings on Wednesday to decide on whether the strike should continue or not. All branch chairmen are expected to be in Abuja on Thursday while the meeting is expected to end on Saturday after which a decision will be communicated to Nigerians.
- EX-MINISTER OF LABOUR, HUSSEINI AKWANGA ABDUCTED IN NASARAWA
The police command in Nasarawa State on Wednesday confirmed the abduction of a former Minister of Labour and Productivity, Husseini Akwanga. The ex-minister served during the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo but was removed in 2003, following an alleged multi-million dollar national identity card scam.
The spokesman of the Nasarawa State Police Command says Akwanga was kidnapped by gunmen at his farm in Akwanga town, north of the capital Lafia. According to the command, all efforts are being put in place to get him back.
- CIVIL SOCIETY GROUPS TASK FG TO EXTRADITE ALISON-MADUEKE
A Coalition of Civil Society groups wants the Nigerian government to ensure that former Minister of Petroleum Diezani Alison-Madueke is brought back to Nigeria to face corruption and money laundering charges leveled against her. The group explained that despite several allegations against the former Minister, she is yet to be prosecuted by the Nigerian government.
It charged government to set up a mechanism for her speedy trial and ensure all parties involved in the crime, face the wrath of the law. It also called on Nigerians to lend their voices to the call in the interest of justice, accountability and good governance in the country.
- OKOROCHA, OTHERS BAG LCCI EDUCATION AWARD
Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha has been honoured in Lagos by the education, Printing and Publishing group of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Okorocha who was represented by his special adviser and liaison officer said the governor had transformed Imo state to a citadel of hope for all children to be educated irrespective of their class.
For the Lagos chamber of commerce, the need for Nigerians to assist government in stabilizing the education sector remains more important than anything.

Ekiti state’s governor Ayodele Fayose on Wednesday charge President Muhammadu Buhari to go to his hometown in Katsina state and rest instead of stressing himself out at Aso Rock.
In a press release from his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi, Fayose said Buhari should resign if he want to live long.
According to him, “Every word that has come out of my mouth before the President’s return, I have no apology for them. President Buhari was indeed in coma and one of those who visited him said his recovery is a miracle, that shows that he was indeed very sick.
“Let Buhari go back to Daura and rest. Don’t send him to early grave.

The Director of Defence Information, Major-General John Enenche, has disclosed that the activities of Nigerians on the social media platforms are now being monitored for hate speech, anti-government and anti-security information by the military in order to reduce
troubling activities and misinformation capable of destroying the unity of the country.
According to Major General Enenche, the social media has always been a challenge all over the world and for the military, it is not different. So having observed the possibility that the social media can be misused the military has taken steps to address the issue by establishing of strategic media centres.
- NO LAW SAYS BUHARI SHOULD HOLD FEC MEETING EVERY WEEK – FEMI ADESINA
Following the president’s cancellation of the Federal Executive Council meeting, Nigerians have been criticizing the Presidency. In reaction to the move,
Femi Adesina, media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari has said that there is no law that says the Federal Executive Council meeting should know hold weekly.
He said President Buhari as the Chairman of the Council has discretion to cancel FEC meetings.
