1. BUHARI WILL BE FLOWN BACK TO NIGERIA ON JULY 27 – UK DOCTORS

 Emerging report has revealed that ailing President, Muhammadu Buhari, who left the country to the United Kingdom (UK) on Sunday, May 7, for treatment over an undisclosed illness, is scheduled to return to Nigeria, on Thursday, July 27.

It was gathered that although Buhari has not fully recovered, his doctors will discharge him by next week, to go and calm the political tension that has been created in the polity, since Mr. President’s departure to the UK.
2. NAFDAC GETS N2 M FINE FOR APPROVING TOXIC FANTA

A Lagos High Court has ordered the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to pay a fine of N2 million for failing to perform its statutory obligations to Nigerians on the dangerous chemical contents of Fanta and Sprite..

The court also dismissed an application filed by the Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) Plc, makers of Fanta and Sprite to stay execution of its earlier judgement on the matter.

The trial judge, Justice, Adedayo Oyebanji, said that NAFDAC did not take appropriate measures before approving such dangerous soft drinks like Fanta and Sprite which is glaringly poisonous to health when taken with Vitamin C.
3. TARABA ASSEMBLY PASSES ANTI-OPEN GRAZING BILL INTO LAW

The Taraba House of Assembly on Wednesday passed the Anti-Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Bill 2017. The passage of the bill came a day after the Assembly adopted the report of the public hearing on the bill which was conducted across the three senatorial zones of the state.
At the plenary presided by the Speaker, Abel Diah, the bill was read for the third time after a motion by the Majority Leader, Joseph Kunini and seconded by Pius Sabo of Wukari 1 constituency. Governor Darius Ishaku sent the bill to the Assembly on May 17, for consideration. Meanwhile, the bill now awaits the governor’s assent.
4. COURT ORDERS FORFEITURE OF ESTATE OWNED BY ALISON-MADUEKE

A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the interim forfeiture of an estate in Banana Island , Lagos state belonging to former petroleum minister Diezani Alison-Madueke. The court also ordered the seizure of almost a billion naira alleged to been fraudulently diverted by Alison-Madueke.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission says the money was stolen from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and kept in three banks in Nigeria. Justice Muslim Hassan, who gave the order, directed one of the banks to appear before it within 14 days to prove the legitimacy of the money.
5. ISLAMIC MOVEMENT OF NIGERIA ALLEGES PLOT TO KILL ZAKZAKY

The Islamic movement of Nigeria claims there is a plot to kill its leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky who has been in government custody since December 2015. His detention followed clashes between his followers and troops of the Nigerian Army in Zaria, Kaduna state, leading to the death of over 300 IMN members.
El-Zakzaky alongside his wife Zeenat have been in detention in spite of a court order ordering their release but the government asserted that they are kept in protective custody for their own safety.
6. SENATE BEGINS APPRAISAL OF CONTENT DEVELOPMENT MONITORING BOARD

The Senate has begun appraisal of the Nigerian content development and monitoring board seven years after it was created. This is to help implement Nigeria’s intervention in the oil and gas industry in order to ensure skill-set transfer and to boost opportunities for indigenous farm.
Declaring open an investigative hearing on successes and challenges facing the Act that was established in 2010 by the National Assembly, Senate President Bukola Saraki called on the board to ensure that Nigerians as well as local oil and gas firms benefit much from the abundant opportunities in the oil industry.
7. NIGERIA TO EXPORT 130, 000 TONNES OF CASHEW NUTS TO US

According to the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, Nigeria is set to supply 130,000 tonnes of roasted cashew nuts to the Walmart supermarket chain in the United States of America valued at $7 billion.
Chief Ogbeh said the US firm came to Nigeria to request for 130,000 tonnes of roasted cashew nuts per annum. Following the US visit, government has decided to create six cashew processing factories in Nigeria, each to be cited in Enugu, Imo, Benue, Kogi, Kwara and Oyo states. Nigeria currently ships the nuts to Vietnam, which in turn roasts and sell to the US market.
8. NO GOING BACK ON INCREASED ELECTRICITY TARIFF – FASHOLA

Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has advised Nigerians to accept the reality of increased electricity tariff. He said the increment was effected so that Nigerians can enjoy reliable power supply.
The minister urged Nigerians to ask that meters be supplied instead of getting court injunctions against tariff review. Fashola said the federal government had chosen to settle out of court for a contract, awarded in 2003, for the supply and installation of three million prepaid meters.
9. LAGOS PARTNERS WITH FORD FOUNDATION ON ARTS AND TOURISM 

Lagos state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has made known the state’s readiness to partner with Ford Foundation on the regeneration of Lagos Island . The governor made the commitment when he received the president of Ford Foundation, Darren Walker and his team at the Lagos house, Ikeja on Wednesday.

It was gathered that the purpose of their meeting was to strengthen the state’s arts and tourism potential.
10. POLICEMAN SHOOTS THREE TRAILER DRIVERS DEAD, MOB SET BANK ABLAZE

There was commotion in Apapa area of Lagos state as a policeman attached to Diamond Bank on Burma Road allegedly shot dead three trailer drivers while angry mob set the Diamond bank on fire as the management of the bank refused them access in to the bank.
It was gathered that a trailer driver wanted to park in front of the Diamond Bank since the entire Burma Road had been overtaken by indiscriminate parking by trailer and tanker drivers but a policeman attached to the bank was said to have objected and in the process, an argument ensued. The policeman was alleged to have fired at the driver, killing him immediately, while two more drivers were also shot dead as they tried to intervene. However, anti-riot policemen have been drafted to the area to maintain peace.
