BAYELSA GOVT INAUGURATES LAND ALLOCATION

The Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson has inaugurated a Land Allocation Committee mandated to stop all land related issues and litigation arising from multiple sales.

In his charge to committee members during the state’s Executive Council Meeting in Yenagoa, Governor Dickson emphasized the need for people living in the state to purchase land with properly processed Certificates of Occupancy.

 

21 SUSPECTED CULTISTS ARRAIGNED IN AKURE

Twenty – one suspected cultists have been arraigned before an Akure Magistrate Court for carrying out some deadly attacks in some areas in the state capital. The cultists who are members of ‘Aiye’ and ‘Eye’ confraternities were arrested by police detectives at different locations in Akure.

Spokesman of the state police command, Femi Joseph, said the 21 suspects are part of over 40 suspects arrested by men and officers of the command. The trial judge ordered that the suspects be remanded in prison custody.

 

BILLIONAIRE KIDNAPPER EVANS SUES IGP, OTHERS

Suspected billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike also known as Evans has filed a fundamental rights enforcement action to compel police authorities to either charge him to court or release him immediately. The suit was filed before the Lagos Federal High Court.

In the motion ex – parte filed on his behalf by a Lagos – based lawyer, Olukoya Ogungbeje, the suspected kidnapper said he has been detained since June 10, without being charged to court or released on bail. He listed the Inspector General of Police, the Nigeria Police Force, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos and the Special Anti – Robbery Squad, Lagos Command as respondents in the suit.

 

EFCC RAID FORMER VICE PRESIDENT NAMADI SAMBO’S KADUNA HOME

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday, June 28 raided the Kaduna home of Nigeria’s former vice president, Namadi Sambo.

Although details of the operations are still sketchy, last year the EFCC raided the Abuja office of the former vice president in what was part of the investigations into the arms procurement scam under the former president Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.

 

FIVE SUICIDE BOMBERS KILLED IN MOLAI BORNO

Five suicide bombers have been killed in an explosion in Molai area of Damboa local government area in Borno state. The explosion comes barely four days after five bombs went off within the University of Maiduguri environment.

The five bombers, a male and four females suspected to be members of Boko Haram sect had gathered to move into Maiduguri before the male carrier’s bomb accidentally went off killing all of the five members of the group.

 

FEC APPROVES INCLUSION OF CORPS MEMBERS IN NHIS

The Federal Executive Council has approved the inclusion of youth corps members into the National Health Insurance Scheme. Health Minister, Isaac Adewole on Wednesday, June 28 said the inclusion was aimed at preventing unnecessary deaths among youth corps members across the country.

National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), will now collaborate with the scheme to improve health care services to serving corps members throughout their one – year mandatory service year.

 

DOGARA MOURNS FORMER TARABA STATE GOVERNOR

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, has said he is saddened by the death of former Taraba state Governor, Danbaba Danfulani Suntai, who passed on in the early hours of Wednesday, June 28, 2017.

The Speaker also commiserated with the government and people of Taraba state, saying it was particularly painful because the deceased was a dedicated and purpose driven leader who served Taraba state between 2007 and 2011, 2011 to 2015. He prayed God comforts and gives his immediate family and the people of Taraba state the fortitude to bear the loss.

 

FMC ABEOKUTA STAFF PROTEST AGAINST IMPOSITION OF NEW CMD

Activities at the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta were suspended as members of staff under different professional bodies, armed with placards with different inscriptions rejected the proposed appointment of Prof. Abdul – Semiu Musa, from the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital.

The workers say they would prefer the appointment of a Chief Medical Director from one of the 65 consultants who applied for the position from the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta as events leading to the conduct of the appointment interview did not follow due process.

 

KEEP OFF THE ROAD OR RISK CLOSURE – AMBODE

The Lagos state government has warned traders to stop displaying their goods on the road beyond the confines of the market, as it causes traffic gridlock, adding that, such markets would be closed.

Secretary to the state government, Tunji Bello, who represented the Governor gave the warning at a meeting with leaders of Agbado Oke – Odo market, Lagos House, Ikeja said the traders also dump their refuse on the road. Responding on behalf of the market leaders, Mukaila Oyinlola, said they had warned the traders but they have constantly given them deaf ears.

 

NIGERIA SEEKS $5 BN LOAN FROM WORLD BANK TO BOOST ELECTRICITY

The Nigerian government is seeking a loan of $5 billion from the World Bank Group to invest in its electricity sector. The Director of Operatives at the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency of the World Bank Group, Sarvash Suri said the agency would deploy a full range of instruments to mobilise investments to resolve Nigeria’s energy crisis.

According to the Debt Management Office, the World Bank holds more than 50 per cent of the country’s external debt portfolio. However, it was disclosed that Nigeria’s indebtedness to the World Bank is expected to rise to about $11 billion.
