FG INAUGURATES COMMITTEE TO REVIEW PUMP PRICE, MINIMUM  WAGE

The Federal Government has set up a committee to reveal the new pump price of petrol and the National minimum wage. The committee is expected to work with the Joe Ajaero-led faction of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC),  which will also look into the current N18, 000 minimum wage.

The Labour leaders are obviously divided, as Ajaero’s faction has distanced itself from the protest. Parties were ordered to maintain the status quo but however, the government should dialogue with the NLC towards an amicable resolution of the dispute, a source said.

 

EFCC STORMS EX-GOVERNOR TURAKI’S ABUJA HOME

Some operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) last night, stormed the Abuja home of a former governor of Jigawa state, Samiu Turaki. The commission arrived his home but met his absence as only few members of the family were present.

Although the EFCC had previously declared him wanted. The commission is persecuting the former governor for a #36 billion theft and money laundering crime he allegedly committed when he was a governor. The sum include 12 billion spent on the botched third term bid of ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo.

 

CCB CHAIRMAN ABDUCTED BY GUNMEN IN MILITARY UNIFORM

The Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), Mr. Sam Saba, was abducted by unknown gunmen who were dressed in military uniforms along Kaduna-Abuja road, he was flagged down by the kidnappers and the Bureau chairman, stopped for them.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Kaduna command, said that, he was not aware of the incident. Muhammed Idris, however, confirmed that the Chairman traveled out and his phones were not available. But upon pressure mounted by police, he was released yesterday.

 

REPS DECLARE SUPPORT FOR FG, BEG NLC

The house of representatives on Wednesday, disclosed decisions of the Federal Government to remove the subsidy on premium motor spirit which now Sells for N145 instead of N86.50k. The House which was presided over by the speaker, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, backed the price hike.

The lawmakers advised the executive arm to ensure full and speedy implementation of the Appropriations Act, 2016, as therein lies much that will help in calming the current situation. Meanwhile the south-south zone of the All Progressives Congress has declared support for the deregulation of the downstream sector of the oil industry.

 

OSUN PROTESTERS ATTACK ACTIVIST DURING FUEL PROTEST

Some angry protesters on Wednesday, physically assaulted a human rights activist, Mr. Amitolu Shitu, during a protest against fuel prices hike organized by the Nigeria Labour Congress in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

Shitu was however, pulled down by the angry protesters when he mounted at the middle of the road to address them. Although he was asked to come down but he declined. This infuriated them and some started melting him with water until he was eventually dragged down.

 

WHY WE BACKED OUT OF LABOUR STRIKE –  PENGASSAN

The Petroleum and Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has said they are not part of the strike led by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, following the withdrawal of its main body, the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and other key unions in the country.

The PENGASSAN spokesperson, Babatunde Oke, said they are not part of the strike because they are affiliated to TUC and not NLC, so therefore, there is no reason to join the strike at the instance of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC). Since TUC has withdrawn, we are not part of the strike.

 

FREE KANU, DASUKI OR WE’LL SHUT DOWN OIL, GAS ACTIVITIES, MILITANTS TELLS FG

A group known as Egbesu Mightier Fraternity, yesterday gave the Federal Government a two week ultimatum to release unconditionally the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and Director of Radio Biafra, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu and former National Security Adviser, colonel Sambo Dasuki.

The group said after the expiration of their ultimatum, without the Federal Government into action, they will regret not heeding to their directives. They also warned that the intimidation and harassment of Chief Government Ekpomupolo (Tompolo) should stop. The group further stated that, they are responsible for the bombings and no body should take them for granted.

 

JONATHAN APPROVED N400M PAID TO METUH –  OKUPE

A former Senior Assistant to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, Doyin Okupe, appeared before a federal high court in Abuja to testify in defence of the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Olisa Metuh.

Okupe who appeared before Justice Okon Abang as the third defence witness said, the payment of the 400M to Metuh by the NSA office was authorised by Jonathan following a presentation which Metuh’s campaign team made to the then president at the presidential villa of which Jonathan made it known to Okupe that he had authorised the payment of 400M to Metuh.

 

AJIMOBI WARNS HERDSMEN AGAINST ILLEGAL GRAZING AND RAPE

The Oyo state governor, Abiola Ajimobi, on Wednesday, lamented over the clashes between Fulani herdsmen and farmers in the state. In a town hall meeting with farmers, herdsmen and stakeholders at the state secretariat in Ibadan, warns all parties involved not to go against the law as offenders would be arrested and prosecuted.

While calling on herdsmen not to graze on farmlands or attack their hosts, the governor also warned farmers not to poison crops or water with the aim of killing herdsmen’s cows. Ajimobi stated that the establishment of ranches by his administration was on the way. Stakeholders present, thank the governor for his interest in their affairs.

 

NLC STRIKE WITNESSES LOW TURNOUT NATIONWIDE

Following the strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), business activities were barely disrupted in the nation’s capital, Abuja. Most filling stations were all opened to the public. Meanwhile, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) led by its president, Comrade Ayuba Wabba held a peaceful rally in Abuja to revert the pump price of fuel to N87 or face a prolonged strike.

Although the strike witnesses low turnout nationwide, but according to Comrade Ayuba Wabba, the NLC supports the fight against corruption and the enthronement of good governance and would continue to demonstrate its commitment in those directions. The NLC assured Nigerians of the commitment to stand and fight against policies that would create hardship.
