  1. OSINBAJO CONCLUDES ARRANGEMENT TO RESHUFFLE CABINET

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has concluded arrangements to effect major changes in the Federal Executive Council (FEC). According to reports, some ministers will be shown the way out of President Muhammadu Buhari’s government, while many others will have their portfolios swapped.
Already, the planned shake-up in the cabinet is causing anxiety among most members who are aware, but not sure of their fate.
A source said: “President Buhari and the Acting President have agreed to overhaul the cabinet and have been discussing on this since Osinbajo visited him in London.”
Recall that last FEC meeting was unusual as almost every council members attended because of uncertainty surrounding the shake up, apart from the inauguration of the new Ministers, who are yet to be assigned portfolios.

 

  1. NIGERIAN POLICE TO DISMISS 3 COPS FOR LOOTING JONATHAN’S PROPERTIES

Nigerian police authorities have detained three officers following the reported theft of household items at the former residence of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan in Gwarimpa Estate, Abuja.
Information gathered on Monday revealed that the policemen would soon face orderly room trial after which they would be dismissed from service for theft.
A source, who is familiar with the investigation into the case, said that the policemen who were guarding the residence had admitted to selling some of the items which they allegedly stole from the house.The Federal Capital Police Command, in a statement, said it had commenced investigation into the case, adding that preliminary investigation indicated that some items were “found to be missing in the house.”

 

  1. POLICE ARREST IKORODU TRADITIONAL LEADER

An Ikorodu traditional ruler has been arrested in connection with the incessant killings in the area. The police arrested him along with three others after their nefarious activity on Sunday which claimed the lives of a family of four at Oke- Ota Ibeshe community.
According to reports, Awoyemi allowed his domain to be used as haven for badoo boys to perform rituals with human blood.
“By this arrest, traditional rulers in Ikorodu should know that their exalted office has privileges and responsibilities. Since they have subjects within their domains, they should educate them on the need to identify residents, particularly new people that are moving into their areas”, a police source said.

 

  1. IBE KACHIKWU TELLS DANGOTE TO SPEED UP COMPLETION OF HIS LAGOS REFINERY

Nigeria’s state minister for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, urged Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote to speed up the construction of his refinery located in Lagos state.
He said this during a visit to the Dangote Oil Refinery site at the Lekki Free Trade Zone in Lagos. He said the government is ready to play its part to assist in making sure the project is completed on schedule.
“It is good to say that private sector is the answer to Nigeria’s problems with a project as big as this. The challenge I will give you today is that of time, I see your time for completion is 2019 December but I am sure you will understand my greed if I tell you that the refinery component of this project should come earlier than the set date.
“I have made very firm commitment to Nigerians that I must stop the importation of petroleum products by 2019 and I am going to keep to it. It is absolutely important that we do this early and given the feat that we have achieved in terms of speed of construction and I urge you to do all within you to achieve its completion before the due date,” he said.

 

  1. THE AWUJALE OF IJEBU LAND SIKIRU ADETONA IS NOT DEAD

The Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona has quashed viral rumors that he is dead. Reports had emerged on Monday that he had passed on. The Awujale revealed that it was all fake news.
He said he is hale and hearty and expressed surprise that some bloggers could be spreading rumours about his death without confirming from the palace in Ijebu-Ode or from his chiefs.
“Why are people spreading rumours about my death, when I am right here at Oriental?” he queried.
The 83-year old monarch is spending his 57th year on the throne. He has for the past week been a guest of Oriental Hotel on Victoria Island, in Lagos, where he has been staying after a routine medical checkup in a Lagos hospital, two weeks ago.

 

  1. TWO CUSTOM OFFICERS SHOT DEAD IN KATSINA

The Katsina State Custom Command of the Nigerian Customs Service has confirmed the killing of two of its officers by suspected armed robbers. The Spokesman of the command, Mr Peter Duniya, who confirmed the killing in Katsina on Monday, said the officers were killed on July 30 while on duty. He said that the officers were shot dead by people suspected to be armed robbers on Daura Road in Katsina.
Duniya said the officers were on routine patrol at Dogon-Hawa Community, near Shargalle Village in the Dutsi Local Government Area of the state when they met their fate. The spokesman named the dead officers as Assistant Superintendent of Customs Babandi Nuradeen and Chief Superintendent of Customs Maidama Yabo.
“The command has already commenced investigation into the circumstance that led to the shootings of the officers,” he stated.

 

  1. POLICE STORMS BADOO SHRINE, DISCOVERS 5 GRAVES

The Lagos State Police Command on Monday uncovered a shrine said to be used by members of the secret cult terrorizing the Ikorodu area of the state, known as Badoo.
The owner of the shrine identified as Alhaji Alaka Abayomi, led a team of policemen into the shrine located on a large expanse of land that is surrounded by thick bush.
Four graves were discovered in the compound while another one that looked fresh was spotted on a corner in the compound.
It was also reported that the notorious ritual cult group, struck yesterday killing a couple and two of their children in Ikorodu.

 

  1. DON’T STAY IN ISOLATED AREAS – POLICE WARNS LAGOSIANS

The Lagos State Police Command has warned Lagos residents in the state against living in isolated and unsafe areas where they might be vulnerable to attacks by hoodlums.
The police spokesperson in Lagos, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, disclosed that the warning became necessary following the murder of four family members at Ibeshe, Ikorodu, at the weekend. He pleaded with community leaders to identify persons staying in isolated areas which are no longer safe and report to the police.
“This should be done in order to stop people from moving into unsecured area without proper social structures,” he added.

 

  1. COURT SENTENCES POLICE OFFICER, 2 OTHERS TO DEATH, 5 YEARS AFTER

Justice Letam Nyordee of a High Court in Port Harcourt has sentenced three out of the seven people facing trial in the killing of four students of the University of Port Harcourt popularly called Aluu4 to death.
Those sentenced to death include, ex-Sergeant Lucky Orji, Ikechukwu Luis Amadi and David Chinasa Ogbonda.
According to reports, the other four suspects facing trial – Abiodun Yusuf, Joshua Ekpe, Abang Cyril, and John Ayu -were discharged and acquitted for lack of overwhelming evidence.
Justice Nyordee in his Judgment blamed the accused persons for embarking on mob action without having the facts about the action of the students.
The Judge said the death of the four children was a culmination of the shameful failure of security institutions, especially in the area of intelligence sharing, adding that the Police, the C4i and the Joint Military Task Force failed in their responsibilities.
However, the counsel to the convicted persons, Chukwueze Ifedi said the decision of the court was based on findings of the investigation.

 

  1. SENATOR SANI TASKS APC TO PROBE INVASION OF KADUNA NUJ OFFICE

Senator Shehu Sani has urged the National Leadership of the All Progressives Congress to set up a panel to investigate Sunday’s invasion of the premises of the Nigerian Union of Journalists in Kaduna which violently disrupted a press briefing called by some political stalwarts of the party. Senator Sani condemned what he said is a situation where thugs are now used to harass perceived political opponents of government.
He stopped short of accusing the state government of being responsible for the disruption of the briefing which saw journalists attacked and their equipment destroyed. According to him, the scenes from Sunday is a reminder of the politics that cost the Peoples Democratic Party the 2015 elections.
