1. SIX PERSONS DEAD, 4 OTHERS INJURED IN LAGOS-SAGAMU EXPRESSWAY

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Ogun state disclosed that six persons died while four were injured in an accident on the Lagos-Sagamu expressway on Monday. The Ogun Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr Clement Oladele said the accident occurred at about 2.12 pm involving a Nissan Quest van with registration number FKJ 297 AJ coming from Ikorodu to Ibadan which ran into a moving Iveco truck due to excessive speed.

The crash, he said, resulted in the death of the six persons while four sustained injuries. The four injured persons are receiving treatment at the Sagamu General Hospital while the corpses had been deposited at the morgue. He advised motorists to desist from excessive speed, especially during the rainy season.
2. MALALA VISITS OSINBAJO, BEGS FG TO GIVE EDUCATION TOP PRIORITY

Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo on Monday received Pakistani rights activist for girl-child education and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Malala Yousafzai, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Malala, 20, was accompanied by her father, Ziauddin Yousafzai and other members of the Malala Foundation. The delegation arrived at the villa at about 5.30 p.m. Although the meeting was held behind closed doors, it was disclosed that Malala said the education of girls and boys formed the major highlights of her meeting with Osinbajo. She urged states and local governments to pay more attention to the sector and called for transparency in the investment towards education as well as the implementation of the Child Rights Act.
3. AYODELE FAYOSE LAUNCHES 2019 PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN ON FACEBOOK
Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose has strengthened his desire to rule Nigeria, by launching a Presidential campaign on facebook: Ayodele Fayose for president 2019.

The governor who is known for his controversies of the APC-led federal government has maintained that he will take over power from 74-year-old Nigeria’s President, Buhari, stressing that he is too frail to govern the affairs of the country.
4. OSINBAJO SUSPENDS 8 TOP STAFF OF NHIS
Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, through the Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole, has suspended eight top management staff of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). The Minister, directed the Acting Executive Secretary of the Agency, Attahiru Ibrahim, to ensure the immediate implementation of the suspension order.

The suspension came weeks after the Senate launched investigations into the fraudulent activities of the Agency. The lawmakers had accused the Agency of corrupt expenditure of N292 million, “without recourse to any appropriate approving authority.”
5. SUICIDE BOMBER KILLS 8 IN MAIDUGURI MOSQUE ATTACK

Eight people were killed, while 15 others injured on Monday when a female suicide bomber blew herself up at a mosque in northeast Maiduguri, despite the heavy presence of civilian joint task force militia.

The head of the Borno state emergency management agency, Ahmed Satomi, said the blast happened at about 5:30 am. Unknown to them, the girl was being pursued from another part of town by residents who were suspicious of her movement at the time. When she approached the Mosque, they demanded that she stopped to be searched but she suddenly dashed into the mosque and set off her bombs.
6. JONATHAN CONGRATULATES MAKARFI-LED PDP

Former president Goodluck Jonathan commended the Ahmed Makarfi led leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for standing steadfast in the midst of trials and tribulations that faced the party while court battles for the soul of the party were ongoing.

Jonathan disclosed this at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja during the first expanded caucus meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) since the national caretaker committee of the party secured victory at the Supreme Court last week.
7. LAGOS TASKFORCE ARRESTS AN ALLEGED KIDNAPPER

Operatives of the Lagos taskforce have arrested a Master of Ceremony for allegedly trying to kidnap a child at the Oshodi area of the state.

According to the mother of the baby, Banke Akinyemi, the suspect, Idama Endurance, had sneaked into their room located at 55 Oshodi Road, Oshodi in the early hours of Monday and made attempt at carrying her baby. Although the suspect denied the allegation, the matter is under investigation.
8. PDP S’WEST CHAIRMAN WANTS PARTY’S DISCIPLINARY MEASURES STRENGTHENED

The south-west chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olorogun Eddy Olafeso says the disciplinary measures of the party should be strengthened to prevent a repeat of the crisis that almost destroyed it.

Olafeso charged the party’s leadership to build the party’s success in the recently conducted Osun west senatorial by-election that the problems faced by the party was caused by selfish attitude of some members of the party.
9. OSOGBO MONARCH PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR AREGBESOLA
The Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun says Osogbo will continue to support Osun state governor, Rauf Aregbesola and his party, APC. The Ataoja who was represented by some of his chiefs at ward one meeting of the All Progressive Congress in Osogbo, says the capital city has benefited more from Aregbesola’s government than any before. He pledged the support of the palace, the government and the people of the state not to allow the All Progressive Congress party to be defeated in the forth coming elections.
10. COURT DIRECTS 19 BANKS TO SEIZE ALUKO, OMOKORE’S ASSETS

A Federal High Court in Lagos has directed 19 banks to seize assets belonging to Olajide Omokore and Kolawole Aluko, both associates of former petroleum minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

The assets are to be held until the court decides the fate of the suit seeking the recovery of $1.7 billion both men and their oil firms owe the federal government. Meanwhile, the federal government had asked the court to restrain the two from giving instructions and receiving payment from the 19 banks in Nigeria, eight outside the country and eight other companies.
