OAU STUDENT DROWNS IN SWIMMING POOL
A 300 level student of the Department of Pharmacy, Obafemi Awolowo University, lost his life yesterday after drowning in a swimming pool at Hilton Hotel.
He’s identified as Fatile Emmanuel. The tragic incident happened when Emmanuel went to the hotel to swim with two of his friends.
A source addressed that the deceased drowned in the swimming pool of the inn because of inaccessibility of life jacket when the incident happened. The policemen from Moore have captured the worker who is in charge of life jackets of the inn and the other two OAU students who went with the deceased to swim at the hotel.
IGP APPROVES PROMOTION OF POLICE OFFICERS WHO ARRESTED EVANS
The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has approved the special promotion of policemen who participated in the hunt and arrest of Lagos most wanted kidnapper, Chukwudi Onwuamadike popularly known as Evans.
The IGP who was highly commended by the Presidency for the arrest decided to motivate his men to do more exploits. 29 sergeants were promoted to the rank of Inspector, while three Corporals were promoted to the rank of Sergeant with effect from June 16, 2017. Some beneficiaries who could not hold back their excitement promised to work harder.
GOV. AMBODE SWEARS IN LASIEC COMMISSIONERS
Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, on Monday swore-in new Commissioners of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, with a charge to add value to the corporate governance, growth and development of the State. He also swore-in members of the state’s Public Procurement Agency, Audit Service Commission, Director-General of the State’s Safety Commission and also inaugurated members of the State Science and Innovation Council.
Ambode said the appointment of Prof. Babawale and Dr. Lawal-Jinadu to the Board of LASIEC was necessitated by the exit of two members of the Commission who had completed their second tenure, adding that the provision of the law setting up the Commission requires that the Board be constituted by the Chairman and six members.

The founder of Latter Rain Assembly and former running mate of President Muhammadu Buhari, Tunde Bakare has blamed the current situation of the country on the nature of leaders in the country. He added that Nigeria needs an energetic leader but the circumstances of our polity have brought us to where we are. That the same country that the likes of (Yakubu) ruled at the age of 30 is now considering people in their 60s and 70s to administer it.
He lamented that what happened in France recently is a clear sign that there is going to be a change of guards almost worldwide, but we should accept our own thing and resolve our issues with wisdom. He further advised that nobody should wish another person dead. We should just pray, because you would put Nigeria in disaster.
ONDO APC CHIEFTAIN FOUND DEAD AFTER KIDNAP
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Mr Olumide Odimayo, who was abducted last Thursday, was found dead yesterday in Ese-Odo Local Government Area. The late Odimayo was abducted by gunmen while returning from a trip.
It was learnt that his body was found near Ogolo River, between Sabomi and Igbotu communities.
Police spokesman Femi Joseph, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said the Command had arrested eight suspects.
The spokesman said the Police arrested the suspected kidnappers of the slain politician before his death.
Joseph said: “The leader of the kidnap gang confessed to the police that Odimayo was in their custody. We discovered that the other kidnappers decided to throw him into the river when they knew that they were no longer safe.”
16 KILLED IN BORNO MULTIPLE BLASTS BY FEMALE SUICIDE BOMBERS
At least 16 persons were killed after five suspected female suicide bombers attacked Kofa Community near Dalori in Borno. Mr Victor Isuku, spokesman of Borno Police Command confirmed the incident, saying 16 persons were killed during the attacks.
Spokesperson of the North East Zonal office of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Abdulkadir Ibrahim, said in Maiduguri that 16 people were killed.
“At about 8.45 pm, two female suicide bombers were intercepted when they tried to gain access into Dalori 2 IDP camp.
“Two other female suicide bombers also detonated their explosives at the adjoining Dalori kofa village at about 8.10 pm, where they killed 16 people,” Ibrahim said.
TWO FEMALE SUICIDE BOMBERS KILLED IN ADAMAWA
Two female suicide bombers suspected to be Boko Haram members have been intercepted and killed by local hunters in Waga village, Madagali Local Government of area of Adamawa State.
The Secretary General of the Nigeria Hunters Association, Garba Tarfa said that the bombers were killed in gun battle. According to him, the suicide bombers were heading toward the local government head quarters when they were seen. He also disclosed that three members of the sect have been arrested by his men and handed over to military officials.
ONDO RAINSTORM: VICTIMS SEEK GOVT. INTERVENTION
Victims of the rainstorm in Gaga Community of Akure have continued to count their losses as they look forward to assistance from any quarters to alleviate their suffering. About fifty houses were affected by the rainstorm which has rendered many people homeless.
While some of the houses were partially affected, many had their roofs blown off by the rainstorm.
Their personal belongings now litter the area. Mostly affected were houses belonging to aged people, who depend on charity for survival. Some of the victims appealed to the state government and other relevant agencies to come to their aid.
KATSINA JUDICIAL COMMISSION OF INQUIRY INDICTS EX- GOVERNOR SHEMA
Katsina state Governor Aminu Bello Masari is set to release a white paper on the report of a Judicial Commission of inquiry that indicted former Governor, Ibrahim Shema of Financial misconduct of more than 58 billion naira.
The chairman of the Commission of Inquiry, Ado Muhammad says the panel received thirteen memoranda and started public hearing in May, last year and Governor Masari assures that civil servants who compromised the rules of engagement, will be dealt with. Masari set up the commission to investigate alleged misappropriation of state funds by the immediate past administration.
NIGERIA TO BENEFIT $20 BN FOREIGN INVESTMENTS
Acting President Yemi Osinbajo said Nigeria is set to benefit more than $20 billion from Direct Foreign Investments. Osinbajo, who was represented by the Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu, made the declaration at the third annual workshop for Judges on Petroleum, Gas and Power in Abuja.
Following recent developments in the Power and Petroleum Sectors, Judges have also been tasked to be proactive in handling the resolution of lingering disputes that bedevil the sector. Most of the Speakers agreed that the Power as well as the oil and gas sectors form the Economic base of the country and Judges must watch their pronouncements on issues in these crucial sectors. Others believe Judges need to update their capacity in handling strong cases of dispute, as it relates to the Power and Oil Sector.
