GROUP SUES BUHARI, OTHERS FOR N100 BN OVER ENUGU KILLINGS

A Non-governmental organization, human rights and empowerment projects, has sued the Federal Government for N100 billion over the massive killings at Nimbo community in the  Uzo-Uwani local government area by the herdsmen, thereby violating their fundamental rights.

The suit filed is expected to be heard on May 16, 2016. The group lamented that since the government cannot protect the lives of the citizens, they should compensate their families.  However, Nigerians are urged to be patient with President Buhari.

 

UPDC WORKERS ARRESTED OVER THEFT OF N22 MILLION

Police in Lagos have apprehended three officials working with the UACN property development company over stealing N22 million belonging to the firm.

They were brought before the court on Monday on three counts bordering on forgery and stealing. The accused pleaded not guilty before Mrs. Ambibola Komolafe, the presiding magistrate and were granted bail in the sum of N500, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum. The case was further adjourned till June 7, 2016.

 

HOW MR. LEKAN SHONDE SURRENDERED HIMSELF TO POLICE

Mr. Lekan Shonde who killed his wife, Ronke, surrendered himself to the Rapid Response Squad of Lagos State command yesterday. The suspect in an interview agreed to submit himself to the police willingly.

Mr. Lekan, a depot worker allegedly killed his wife, Ronke, last Thursday prior to a disagreement in their home at Egbeda-Idimu area of the state. My wife was unfaithful to me, I only pushed her hand aside on the staircase during an argument,  I did not kill her, he lamented. The case would be transfer to the State department of criminal investigation, Yaba.

 

FALAE FIRM’S ACCOUNT FROZEN, FANI-KAYODE DETAINED

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has frozen the bank account of a company belonging to the former secretary to the government of the federation, Chief Olu Falae over investigation into Goodluck Jonathan campaign organization fund during the 2015 election.

Former minister of aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode was detained on Monday for having received N840 million from the campaign funds. Both Falae and Fani-Kayode were accused of receiving N940 million from the Director of Finance of the campaign organization, senator Nenadi Usman.  Meanwhile, EFCC has detained Fani-Kayode as investigations will continue to recover the fund.

 

FAKE TOWN PLANNER HELD BY GOVT OFFICIALS

Adeyemi Adebayo, who is in the business of serving fake demolition notices and stop-work orders under construction has been nabbed in Lagos. He claimed he hailed from Osun State and resided in Ogun state. He was caught up with, by some officials of Lagos State ministry of physical planning and urban development, after serving a demolition notice.

After he was arrested, the suspects was caught with four fake identity cards of the Lagos State government. The suspect claimed to have divorced his wife. He added that,  after being laid off, he took to working with his friend’s younger brother, but nemesis caught up with him. The case has since been handed over to the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State police command.

 

WORKERS SHUT BANK OVER NON-PAYMENT OF SALARIES IN AKWA IBOM

Workers in their hundreds on Monday, shut down a bank over non-payment of salaries for four months. They lamented that, for accountability and transparency, the present management of the bank should be sacked.

According to Mrs. Bassey Mbede, the chairperson, National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions in the state, the problem ensued as a result of a loan the state government took and bought shares in champions breweries two years ago. Although the money had been paid earlier on but some restrictions were made. All efforts to reach the commissioner of finance and the commissioner of information proved abortive.

 

FG TO UNVEIL BUDGET DETAILS

The details of the budget signed into law last Friday, will soon be made known to the public including its strategic and implementation plan by the federal government on Thursday. The presentation would be carried out by minister of budget and national planning, Senator Udo Udoma and the Minister of State, budget and national planning, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed.

Although, the president in his speech after signing the budget had directed Udoma to make details available to Nigerians, promises to speak extensively on it in his democracy day address to the nation on May 29. The government had on Sunday listed six strategic intervention areas that will be covered by the budget.

 

FASHOLA CHARGES DISTRIBUTION, GENERATION FIRMS ON SOLVING POWER PROBLEMS

Babatunde Fashola, the Minister of works, housing and power has encouraged electricity distribution and generation companies to take stands, so as to solve their power problems despite the deficit of electricity meter in Nigeria.

The minister who spoke with operatives said that, it was not time to wait for the power ministry before solving the problem. He urged all hands to be on deck to solve power problems in Nigeria. The minister, however, appreciated the Niger State Government for intervening in the Zungeru power station construction works.

 

MY DESIRE TO SERVE EDO WILL PROPEL ME TO VICTORY – OBASEKI

Mr. Godwin Obaseki, the governorship aspirant of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Edo State, yesterday had lamented over the plot to frustrate his campaign, saying his desire to serve Edo State will propel him to victory. Meanwhile, the police in the state have arrested those behind the attack of Obaseki and items recovered.

Abiodun Osife who is the police spokesman in the state, said the suspects are with them, adding that, investigations are still ongoing. Obaseki campaign organization described the attack as absurd, urging all party leaders to join hands with security agents to create tensions that could scar away thuggery in the state.

 

NCC, SPECTRUM LICENSING AND BROADBAND PENETRATION

The Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) under the administration of Professor Umar Danbatta, plans to implement 8-point agenda by organizing a consultative stakeholders forum to explore measures of deepening broadband penetration through the issuance of new microwave spectrum to upgrade broadband Internet in the country.

Danbatta ably represented by Mr. Tony Ojob, public affairs of NCC said, the NCC has agreed to license the spectrum bands on a ‘first come, first served’  basis. He said the NCC also planned to upgrade the technical and economic efficiency thereby increasing access to telecom services, reducing cases of network congestion and improve quality services to consumers.
