EFCC’S TREATMENT OF FANI-KAYODE ‘INHUMAN’, AIDE ALLEGES
The spokesperson for embattled former minister of aviation, Femi-Fani Kayode, has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission of displaying ‘inhuman’ treatment to his principal.
Mr. Nduke in a statement on Monday said the anti-graft agency ‘whisked’ Mr. Fani-Kayode to Lagos in defiant of a court order prohibiting it from doing so, adding that the government might be trying to treat the politician the same way it was treating Sambo and Nnamdi Kanu.
PRICE OF PETROL TO FALL SOON – VP OSINBAJO
Vice president Yemi Osinbajo who was addressing a cheering crowd of supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress at the Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos, on Monday, assured Nigerians that the price of petrol, which was recently increased from N86.50 to N145 per litre would soon reduce.
According to Osinbajo, due to the liberalization of the downstream sector, ” Every Nigerian can now bring petrol and supply as long as they meet the Pipeline and Product Marketing Company (PPMC) regulations”. He appealed to Nigerians to be patient with the Buhari administration as the country is on the path to progress. He however, praised the state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode for taking the lead in the provision of infrastructure and security in the state.
FAYOSE MAKES HISTORY, BANS CATTLE GRAZING IN EKITI
The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has stopped the grazing and rearing of cattle in the state, saying those interested in cattle farming should get their own private cattle ranch. He also stated that, a bill to make movement of cattle from one location to another criminal would soon be sent to the State House of Assembly.
The governor who became the first ever state executive to take a drastic measure lamented bitterly that, the activities of the Fulani herdsmen was inimical to revival of agriculture in the country when the Federal Government is not doing anything. He therefore, assured the people of Ekiti State that the herdsmen will not invade the community again.
I WAS NEVER SERVED WITH COURT PAPERS RELATING TO ‘MISSING N30 TRILLION” – OKONJO-IWEALA
The former minister of finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has denied being served with papers on a freedom of information act case supposedly brought against her by the socio-economic rights agenda on missing N30 billion. In a statement on Monday, Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala denied ever receiving any court papers regarding the SERAP case.
She, however, said she had not read the judgment and would therefore defer any comments on the matter. ‘I have instructed my lawyers to take steps to set aside the judgment as it affects me,’ she said.
CHIEF BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS BOMB MAKER KILLED BY COLLEAGUE, ANOTHER GOES BLIND
Following the clearance and rescue operation by the Nigerian military, the chief bomb maker and a high ranking terrorist, was shot dead yesterday. OSINBAJO ENDS LAGOS VISIT, LEAVES FOR LUSAKA
Vice president Yemi Osinbajo is billed to leave Abuja for Lusaka, Zambia to represent Nigeria at the 51st annual general meeting of the African development bank, holding this week. A statement from the state house Abuja stated that Osinbajo would be participating in the AGM’s high level panel/African leaders roundtable on energy and climate change, which will also feature African leaders.
He would also speak on the high level panel on jobs for African youth – turning the demographic dividend into economic dividend. However the vice president would return to Abuja on Wednesday.
FG PLANS DIALOGUE WITH MILITANT TO END PIPELINE VANDALISM – LAI MOHAMMED, KACHIKWU
The Minister for information and Culture with the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, Monday, said the Federal Government is considering opening a robust dialogue with the Niger-Delta militants on the need to stop militancy in the oil rich region.
Mohammed while lamenting the situation said there was no other solution to the issues happening in Niger Delta other than engaging them in meaningful dialogue. Kachikwu in a statement said, the continued audit of the country’s daily fuel consumption resulted in weeding out 10 million litres of fake Petroleum products as a result. He claimed that the fund would have been used to fix Nigeria’s economy.
COURT DISALLOWS PROSECUTION WITNESS FROM TESTIFYING
The schedule trial of trustees of the Synagogue Church of All Nation (SCOAN) and two engineers involved in the construction of the collapsed six-storey building that left over 116 dead could not go on as stated before Justice Lateef Lawal-Akapo of a Lagos high court sitting in Ikeja.
At the hearing yesterday, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Mrs. Idowu Alakija informed the court that one of the eight prosecution witnesses, Adebayo Musiliu Olayinka was in court and was ready to testify. Opposing her submission, the lead defence counsel, Chief Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), argued that the witness statement was not forwarded to the team as mandatory by law.
WE PAID RANSOM BEFORE WE WERE FREED, ABDUCTED APC CHIEFTAINS
Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kwara State, Ishola Balogun who was kidnapped by suspected gunmen on Friday alongside the party’s secretary, Chief Sunday Bode Adekanye said ransom was paid before they were released.
He said all efforts by security operatives yielded no result while they were held in the bush. The gunmen demanded N40 million from him and 30 million from his secretary. In a statement he said that, “We had to call our people, we don’t know what they did but I think they must have paid certain amount to warrant our release on Saturday evening.
NIGERIA IS GOING THROUGH TOUGH TIME – AMOSUN
Ogun state governor, Ibikunle Amosun, admitted yesterday that things are tough in Nigeria at the moment. The governor expressed happiness that despite the current challenges in Nigeria, investors are still keen on coming into the country and that his state is number one in the country (Osun State), as it focused to create wealth from waste.
He disclosed that within the next two years, Ogun state will be Nigeria’s industrial hub. He, however, urged Nigerians to be productive in whatever skills within their possession and be conscious of their environment, particularly climate change as well as reduce carbon dioxide.
