FORMER PRESIDENT OLUSEGUN OBASANJO IS BEHIND MY POLITICAL SUCCESS – BUHARI
President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, who was the special guest of honour at the 40th anniversary of Ogun state capital, opened up that, former President Olusegun Obasanjo was behind his successful political career. He expressed joy by thanking the president for having given him Minister of Petroleum and tolerated him for three years.
Buhari further appreciated Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state on his infrastructural development in the state, expressing that he is people-oriented and pray he carry on the good work of transformation in the state.
5M DAMAGES TO BE PAID BY THE POLICE FOR ILLEGAL DETENTION
A Federal High Court, Lagos has awarded N5 million charges and an order to make a public apology to the applicant, published by any national dailies within 90 days against the Nigerian Police for violating the fundamental rights of a Lagos Monarch, Oba Adeoriyomi Oyebo, the Obateru of Egbin, Ikorodu, Lagos State.
Justice Okon Abang gave the ruling in a fundamental enforcement action filed by the Monarch recently. The court said, the arrest was illegal and unconstitutional as there was no justification for such arrest while being arrested and detained unlawfully for eight months.
WE GOT N905.8M FOR NO CONTRACT – OBILOR
Uche Obilor, a lawyer and businessman, yesterday told the Federal High Court in Lagos that his three companies got N905,800 million from the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) without bidding for any contract.
Obilor said, they neither issued request for payment, nor submitted any invoices. He even took step to confirm if any of his workers was behind it, still to no avail. However, the judge’s body temperature was very high (yesterday) Monday, to conclude on the matter, he promised the trial continues on Friday.
PRESIDENT PAUL BIYA OF CAMEROON TO VISIT NIGERIA TODAY
President Paul Biya of Cameroon, at the invitation of President Muhammadu Buhari will start his two-day state visit to Nigeria today, Tuesday May 3,2016. A statement by the presidential spokesman yesterday revealed that the president along side his wife Chantal and Senior Cameroon government officials will be welcome by President Buhari at the presidential villa, Abuja on arrival.
Issues will be conferred on by both leaders of common interest to both Nigeria and Cameroon and it is expected that new agreements that will strengthen the already existing ties, as well as trade and economic relations will be concluded and signed before the president’s departure from Abuja on Wednesday, May 4, 2016.
PETROL TO SELL FOR N99.38 PER LITRE WITHOUT SUBSIDY – PPPRA
The Federal Government had on Monday said, it was currently subsidising petrol at N12.62 per litre, adding that, the subsidy figure was for petrol imported directly by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and dispensed at its retail outlets while N12.88 per litre for other oil marketers.
The Petroleum Product Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) and released a template in Abuja recently which explained that, the cost of the product ought to be sold at N98.62 per litre at NNPC outlets and at N99.38 per litre by major and independent marketers without subsidy based on the exchange rate of N197 to a dollar.
NIGERIAN GOVT. TARGETS 7,000MW OF ELECTRICITY WITHIN 18 MONTHS – OSINBAJO
Vice president, Yemi Osinbajo had on Monday said that, the federal government is targeting to generate 7,000 megawatts of electricity in 2017. He stated this at a presentation of a book “Nigeria: The Challenges of Growth and Development, an In depth Analysis by Experts,” held at Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan, which was attended by prominent citizens.
Mr. Osinbajo said power as a major challenge to the federal government remains the most important aspect of the budget that needed to be restored. The vice president stated that, the federal government would in few days’ time, begin the implementation of the 2016 budget, adding that President Buhari had two weeks ago, ordered full mobilization of the military for the protection of pipelines in the country.
NIGERIA POLICE OFFER N5 MILLION FOR INFORMATION ON ABDUCTED EX-MINISTER
The Ogun state police command had on Monday offered a N5 million reward for any useful information that could lead to the rescue of the abducted former minister Iyabo Anisulowo, of which her abductors had demanded N200 million ransom but the police will offer N5 million as a reward if anyone with useful information to hasten Mrs. Anisulowo’s rescue.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi said that the State commissioner of police, Abdulmajid Ali made the declaration after security meeting with officers and other security Chiefs in the state. The commissioner of command Ogun state therefore, appeals to the general public to support the police and give useful information and assured that, it would be made confidential.
BUHARI IS TOO SLOW TO BEGIN THE CHANGE AGENDA – CLERIC
Pastor Kingsley Innocent who is the founder and president of Bible Believing Mission Incorporation, Aba Abia State, has said that despite the expectations of Nigerians that things will turn around for good with the Buhari’s administration, the president is still too slow to implement the change.
Pastor Innocent in Aba said, our president is too slow and as a matter of fact, it is affecting Nigerians negatively. He however urge the Federal Government to possibly ensure that this change is realized because it is the reason he was voted to power. Though it is a difficult task but it is possible and achievable, he lamented.
BUHARI MEETS WITH CATHOLIC BISHOPS IN ASO ROCK
President Buhari yesterday evening met behind closed doors at about 9pm with 16 Catholic bishops at the presidential villa, Abuja, under the umbrella of the Catholic Bishops’ conference of Nigeria on the grounds of the menace of the fulani herdsmen in parts of the country.
Following the recent attack of the Archbishop of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyeka last week, Catholic Bishop of of Uromi Diocese, Dr. Donatus Ogun had appealed to Buhari to tackle speedily of the growing cruelty of the fulani herdsmen. The president further pledge his indulgence to strike out the herders as soon as possible.
COURT SENTENCED 20YR-OLD MECHANIC FOR STEALING HANDSET
A Lugbe Grade 1 Area Court has pronounced the jail of a 20-year old mechanic, Jamilu Ahamodu to three-months imprisonment for having stole a mobile phone worth of 11,500. The judge, Mr. Garba Ogbede, however gave the convict an option of N15 , 000 fine and also ordered him to pay the complaint N11, 500 restitution but he had no option than to sentence the convict, since he had pleaded guilty.
The prosecuting counsel Mrs. Aderonke Imana, had earlier on told the court that, the convict broke into the complaint’s room at about 9.30pm and made away with his Tecno phone. The convict admitted committing the offence during investigation and interrogation by the police. As a matter of fact, the prosecutor prayed the court to try him summarily under section 347 of the administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.
