1. DINO MELAYE REACTS TO COURT’S RULING ON RECALL PROCESS

The embattled lawmaker representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Dino Melaye, has described the ruling by a Federal High Court Abuja which failed to grant his application to stop his recall from the Senate as appealable.
Melaye, in his reaction to the ruling on Monday, alleged that Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, Independent National Electoral Commission, top Federal Government officials, and top security officers were behind his travails.
He however, lamented that the combined efforts of all those against him will fail woefully.
2. I WANTED TO GO ON EXILE – PRESIDENT BUHARI
President Muhammadu Buhari said yesterday that he considered going on exile if the harvests are not good for two consecutive years.
He said this at the Presidential Villa in Abuja yesterday while receiving the National Council of Traditional Rulers led by the Sultan of Sokoto Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.
He blamed the present economic challenges in the country on the mismanagement of public resources over the years. He therefore pledged to continue to pursue programmes and projects that would improve the lots of the masses in the nation.
3. I WILL SHOCK EVERYONE, I WILL FIGHT CORRUPTION LIKE NEVER BEFORE – ATIKU
Nigeria’s former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Monday released a statement pledging to fight corruption in the country.
Atiku who made known his intention to run for president in 2019, in a statement, stressed that he was well equipped to fight corruption because of his vast experience both in the public and private sectors and his ability to build a team capable of accomplishing the task.
“I will shock everyone because I believe that I will fight corruption like never before,” he said.
4. FG APPROVES CONCESSION OF LAGOS, ABUJA AIRPORTS
Federal government has approved the concessioning of the Lagos and Abuja Airports. The vice President, Yemi Osinbajo stated this at the 5th Presidential Quarterly Business Forum In Abuja on Monday. Although the Minister of State, Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika, had, last year, dropped the hint that the Federal Government will concession the Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt and Kano international airports in the first phase of its concession programme.
“The thinking is that just like every other place in the world, we will concession our airports and we are beginning with the big four, Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Kano”, he said.
5. POLICE RETURN RITUAL KILLER, IFEANYI DIKE TO RIVERS
Suspected ritualist, Ifeanyi Dike has been brought back to Rivers state after his re-arrest in Jos.
Dike, an undergraduate of the University of Port Harcourt had been on the run after he escaped from police custody on August 24th after allegedly raping and killing his eight-year-old cousin.
Surrounded by security officials and onlookers, a limping Dike slowly made his way into the Rivers Police command.
Commissioner of Police, Zaki Ahmed vows Rivers will be unsafe for criminal elements to thrive.
6. NIGERIA CUSTOMS UNCOVERS ANOTHER 1, 100 WEAPONS
Operatives of the Tin-Can Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, NIS have smashed a syndicate that specialised in smuggling weapons into the country, discovering 1,100 pump action riffles loaded in a 20 foot container.
According to reports, the weapons was discovered to have been brought from Turkey and were concealed inside a container which Bill of Laden indicated it was conveying wash hand basins.
7. FG ESTABLISHES N27BN DEBTS, N63BN CLAIMS UNVERIFIED ON BILLS MDAs OWE
The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has said the federal government through verification could only establish N27 billion from the claims of over N90bn submitted by Distribution Companies (DisCos) as Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) electricity debts.
Fashola who spoke at the on-going 19th power sector meeting in Surulere, Lagos was reacting to reports about the huge debts being owed Egbin power plant.
He blamed the Managing Director of the privatised plant, Dallas Monroe Peavey, the minister said the resolution of debts were priority for his administration.
He urged stakeholders to co-operate with NERC to fast-track completion of the regulations for metering service providers and eligible customers.
8. ALHASSAN’S STATEMENT IS IRRITATING AND THOROUGHLY SCANDALOUS – APC DISOWNS MINISTER
Major stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Taraba State, has disowned the Minister of Women Affairs, Hajia Aisha Alhassan, over remarks about her loyalty to a former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
The Taraba APC Integrity Group, at a press briefing in Jalingo, in reaction to recent public endorsement of former vice president Atiku Abubakar for the 2019 presidency and declaration that her loyalty was not with President Muhammadu Buhari, said the minister was on her own.
The press statement, read by the spokesman of the group, Mr. Aaron Artimas, described her utterances as “irritating and thoroughly scandalous,” and said her behaviour was “insolent as it not only ridiculed the presidency but has become an anti thesis for our dear state”.
9. CRUDE OIL PRICE RISES TO $56
Crude oil prices regained ground after the Saudi oil minister discussed the possible extension of a pact to cut global oil supplies beyond March 2018 with his Venezuelan and Kazakh counterparts.
U.S. crude was trading 36 cents firmer at 47.84 dollars a barrel, while Brent rose 22 cents to 56.00 dollars.
The news development has helped to offset the downward pressure on oil prices amid worries that energy demand would be hit hard by Hurricane Irma.
Investors remained cautious over the possible economic impact of Hurricane Irma as it chewed its way up the Florida coast, knocking out electricity to three million homes and businesses statewide.
10. AMAECHI PROVIDES DETAILS INTO BUHARI’S APPROVAL OF RAIL LINE TO DAURA
Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, has provided further insight into why the Federal Government approved a rail line to Daura.
The Minister said the rail line through the hometown of President Muhammadu Buhari in Katsina state will connect the country with her landlocked neighbours.
He stated that government realized Nigeria’s landlocked neighbours like Niger, import through Ghana, Togo and even Benin Republic because of absence of rail line connecting their areas.
Speaking with journalists after the monthly project steering committee meeting on the $1.5bn Lagos-Ibadan rail project, he said the project would address the competition.
