  1. COURT DISCHARGES ALI NDUME

The immediate past Senate leader, Mohammed Ali Ndume, has been discharged from all four counts charge of terrorism leveled against him by the Federal Government. The trial judge, Justice Gabriel Kolawole, set him free on the grounds that the prosecution did not establish any case against the lawmaker.

 

The Judge blamed the prosecution for failing to call eminent personalities to give evidence, in respect of the charge against Ndume, hence, it had hindered him from discharging the burden of proof, as required by law. He is a free man for now, until when the ruling will be appealed at the appellate court, if the need arises.

 

  1. FASHOLA TO APPEAR BEFORE HOUSE OF REPS OVER COMMENTS

The House of Representatives has summoned the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola to appear before it. It was reported that the Minister accused the National Assembly of tempering with the amount earlier budgeted for the Lagos-Ibadan road construction, in the 2017 budget.

 

A lawmaker from Adamawa, who led the debate over the alleged comments of Fashola, argued that the rights of the National Assembly has been breached. After much considerations, the House adopted that he be summoned.

 

  1. EFCC ARRESTS FORMER JIGAWA STATE GOVERNOR

Saminu Turaki, the former  state governor of Jigawa state has been arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly mismanaging Jigawa state’s fund during his tenure as governor.

 

It was revealed that Turaki’s arrest is connected to an arrest warrant, after EFCC’s failed attempts to bring him to court.

 

  1. LAGOS POLICE BEGIN SCREENING OF 138 BADOO SUSPECTS

The Lagos state police command’s spokesperson, Olarinde Famous-Cole, said it has commenced screening of the 138 suspected members of the dreaded Badoo cult group, who were arrested on Saturday in Ikorodu area of Lagos state.

 

The Chairman, Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Agency, Isreal Ajao, said the agency would adopt traditional methods to unravel the mystery behind the cult killings because it had a ritual undertone attached to it. Mr. Famous added that, government is on top of the situation.

 

  1. INEC PROMISES SMOOTH CONDUCT OF OSUN WEST BY-ELECTION POLL

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has promised to provide a conducive atmosphere for all political parties running the forthcoming July 8, Osun West Senatorial by-election. The resident electoral commissioner deployed for the conduct of the by-election, Baritor Kpaji made the promise at a meeting in Osogbo.

 

He disclosed that election materials will arrive the state, Wednesday, July 5, and will be distributed on Thursday, July 6, in readiness for the poll. Meanwhile, no vehicle is allowed to move on the election day from 6am to 6pm in the area.

 

  1. FORMER HEAD OF STATE, YAKUBU GOWON PRAYS FOR NIGERIA

Elder statesman and former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon had during his programme ‘Nigeria Prays’ in Sokoto, charged on the people of Nigeria to always pray for divine wisdom for the success of the country’s leaders. During the session, Nigeria’s challenges were tabled to God in prayers.

 

Mr. Gowon called on separatist agitators in the nation to change their mindsets and embrace the peace building process. Adding that, they should make amends for their wrongful ways, return to God and be good citizens for the development of the nation.

 

  1. NIGERIAN SENATE SLAMS PRESIDENCY

Nigerian Senate on Tuesday, July 4, called for a suspension of consideration and confirmation of appointments by President Muhammadu Buhari over a comment credited to Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, that executive appointment did not require legislative approval based on section 171 of the constitution. Osinbajo had earlier sent a letter, asking the senate to confirm the nomination of Mr. Lanra Gbajabiamila as chairman of the National Lottery Commission.

 

While strongly condemning Osinbajo for the comment, the lawmakers successively asked that an embargo be placed on confirmation of executive appointments pending the time the powers of the legislature had been recognized.

 

  1. DINO MELAYE URGES NIGERIAN SENATE TO STOP HIS RECALL PROCESS

Senator Dino Melaye representing Kogi West senatorial district had on Tuesday, July 4, after the release of his recall timetable informed the Nigerian Senate about those sponsoring his recall move.

 

He said the recall process was instituted by Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state. The embattled senator urged the Senate not to allow the commencement of the process. Reacting to the statement, the Senate said it will look into the matter to verify if the process is indeed legal.

 

  1. KWARA APC DISOWNS SARAKI’S PRESIDENTIAL POSTERS

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara state has disowned a fake photo-shopped banners of the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, on the internet. The photo-shopped banners are purportedly calling on Saraki to run for the 2019 presidential election.

 

The APC in a statement by  its state publicity secretary, Alhaji Sulyman Buhari said, “We have initially chosen to ignore the banner as we believed it was fake, and especially coming from somebody not well known among the supporters of the Senate President. Saraki had during his recent visit to Ilorin, told Nigerians to wait till May, 2018 to know his next political ambition.

 

  1. TELL US THE TRUTH, YOUR HUSBAND IS ON LIFE SUPPORT – FAYOSE

Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose has challenged the First Lady, Mrs. Aisha Buhari to reveal the true status of her ailing husband. According to him, her recent hurried visit to the London, was a confirmation that President Buhari is on life support.

 

He said, “No one is interested in President Buhari’s death. Rather, we are interested in freeing Nigeria from the hands of few individuals who are presently holding the country to ransom.”

He recalled that that was the reason he raised the issue of president Buhari’s age, health and mental capacity in 2015 and warned against electing him as president.
