KACHIKWU ASSURED INVESTORS IN OIL & GAS INDUSTRY

Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and Group Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has given full hope to local service providers and prospective investors in the oil and gas industry of federal government’s assurance towards bringing the local content policy.

Although, ably represented by the acting Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Mr. Patrick Obah, charged all agencies to work in hand with the Federal Government so as to boost their companies as government has determined to engaged Nigerian in productive work by enforcing local content practice in other sector such as power, construction and telecommunication.

 

UNICAL LECTURER, TWO STUDENTS ABDUCTED

Gunmen numbering about seven on Tuesday, who came in speed boat from the Obufa Esuk River abducted Stephen Ndifon of the school of Medical sciences, University of Calabar, UNICAL, and two other students to a hideout. The hoodlums shot repeatedly at every angle to scare away people before he stormed the lecturer’s house, took him away and the students.

However, it was gathered that the residents of the area, usually pay some policemen to watch around the quarters but was unimaginable that the hoodlums were not apprehended because the place was quite. The information officer of the University, Effiong Eyo said, they have reported the matter to the police, and information is in progress.

 

PAYING LIP SERVICE TO THE TASK IS OVER –  DOGARA

Hon. Yakubu Dogara, the speaker of the House of Representatives has lamented that the need for more effort in diversifying the nation’s economy, to improve its GDP and earn foreign exchange is encouraged in Nigeria, adding that, paying lip service to the task is over so as to ensure Nigerian economic growth attainable.

During the commencement of the sectoral debates on the floor of the house, Dogara expressed confidence that, all needed to successfully transform the country is available within the country. He further explained that, legislators are at it, to deliberate on sustainable policy strategies and legislations for quick recovery of the economy.

 

NIGERIA WILL NOT DIVIDE – SULTAN

Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has given assurance that, even at the violent state between fulani herdsmen and farmers in the country and agitation for self – determination by some ethnic groups, “Nigeria will not divide”. He however, called on the National Youth Service Corps to stand up on the role against economic tensions in the country.

Mrs. Abosede Aderibigbe, the spokesperson of the NYSC, on Tuesday quoted the Sultan as saying these during a polite call on him by Brig. General Sule Kazaure, the Director – General of the NYSC, at his Palace in Sokoto. The Sultan finally stated that, the two major religions teaches us to be our brothers’ keeper, therefore we can build it together.

 

NIGERIA SIGNS AGREEMENT ON TRADE COOPERATION WITH CAMEROUN

President Muhammadu Buhari and Paul Biya of Cameroun, who is on a state visit to Nigeria have signed agreement on trade cooperation and conservation of the Benue River, security, agriculture and immigration issues on behalf of Nigeria.

The Camerounian president was invited b president Buhari, who also agreed on the cover trade cooperation and military agreements of the Multi National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) which is aimed at ending the free movement of Boko Haram terrorists along their borders.

 

DIEZANI TO FACE TRIAL OVER N23.29BN

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has traced the former minister of petroleum, Diezani Alison – Madueke and said she will face trial over N23.29 billion paid to the officials of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) across the 36 States on account of the 2015 general election.

It was however believed that, after thorough investigation by the EFCC operatives, that $115M doled out by Diezani and her associates through Fidelity bank came from proceeds of stolen crude oil, out of the N23.29 billion distributed by the fidelity bank, Gesila Khan, who was the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of Rivers state also got N185.8 million.

 

SPEAKER, DEPUTY IMPEACHED BY EDO STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY

Mr. Victor Edoror, the speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly and his deputy, Mr. Bright Osayande, have been impeached by lawmakers in the state over misconduct.

They were however, impeached by a 16 members of the House and as a result, Mrs. Elizabeth Ative representing Uhunmwonde constituency, elected as the speaker, following Mr. Victor Edoror’s removal. Governor Adams Oshiomhole frowned at the impeachment because it is unconnected to the abrupt ending of the local government tenure.

 

PRESIDENT BUHARI ORDERED SECURITY AGENCIES TO DEAL WITH HERSDMEN

President Muhammadu Buhari, while speaking at a meeting with members of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria in Abuja yesterday said, he has ordered all the Inspector-General of police and other security agencies to deal mercilessly with the notorious fulani herdsmen as the security of every Nigerian is a major concern to him.

President Buhari who expressed his heart felt condolences to the Catholic Bishop of Enugu and the people of Ukpabi Nimbo and all others who have been dealt with by the herders. Speaking on other issues, Buhari stayed that, the country has not been saving and that is why things have gone so bad. He urge the Bishops that his administration is working very hard to bring back the change agenda he promised.

 

EX-MINISTER REGAINS FREEDOM

The former minister of State for Education, Senator Iyabo Anisulowo, who was kidnapped last Wednesday in Ogun state, has been rescued unhurt and no ransom paid, by the men of the Ogun state police command at Gbegbinlayo village on Tuesday in Abeokuta North local government area of the state at about 7pm.

However, two suspects had been arrested, including the leader of the gang that kidnapped Anisulowo. The police tracked the kidnappers through both land and aerial patrols in Lagos where they were arrested while trying to fly to Dubai. Though investigations are on, it is believed that more suspects will be arrested.

 

LAGOS COMMENCES IMPLEMENTATION OF NATIONAL POLICY

The Lagos State government had yesterday begin the process of the National Policy on Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)  with the initiation of the Lagos State Council on MSME and also flagged off the first state MSME exclusive fair and purchase made in Lagos: “Create Employment” campaign to encourage patronage for products of MSMEs.

The Lagos State Governor, governor Ambode was however, represented by his deputy, Mrs. Oluranti Adebule, who said the establishment of the council was to ensure proper coordination of the MSME subsector in the state and the implementation of the National policy on MSME. She charge the council to ensure that they enhance productivity for the  betterment of economic development in the state.
