1. BUHARI HOLDS HIGH-PROFILE MEETING WITH SECURITY CHIEFS, POLICE IG, SSS AND NIA HEADS

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday met behind closed doors with service chiefs, Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali; and the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno.
The meeting is also being attended by the Director General of the State Security Services, SSS; Lawal Daura, the acting Director of the Nigeria Intelligence Agency, NIA; Arab Yadam, and the representative of the Inspector-General of Police.
The service chiefs at the meeting include Chief of Defence Staff, Gabriel Olonisakin; Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai; Chief of Naval Staff, Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas and the Chief of Air Staff, Sadique Abubakar.
Meanwhile details of the meeting is yet to be disclosed.
2. MONKEY POX HITS EKITI
Ekiti State Government has confirmed two suspected monkey pox cases in Okemesi Ekiti, Ekiti state.
The Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Modupe Alade said in a press conference in Ado Ekiti.
“We have two cases at Okemesi Ekiti. Tests are still being carried out and not until it is confirmed, we can’t come out with any official statement.”
The victims, Alade noted, were discovered in Okemesi Ekiti, a border town with Osun State in Ekiti West Local Government, have been quarantined while their blood samples have been taken to Abuja for laboratory tests.
3. ECOWAS COURT ADJOURNED NNAMDI KANU’S CASE
The trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, over alleged fundamental rights violation was on Tuesday postponed following the absence of the respondent’s counsel in ECOWAS Court.
It was gathered that the lead counsel to the Nigerian government, Dayo Akpata, was reportedly having a meeting with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and subsequently unable to make it to Tuesday’s court session.
Mr. Ejiofor accused the Nigerian government of ”deliberately delaying the matter.” He asked the court to compel the respondent to pay a cost of N2 million for what he described as a deliberate frustration of the matter.
However, the court adjourned the matter till November 21.
4. FG DRAGS SENATOR MISAU TO COURT OVER ALLEGATIONS AGAINST INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE
The Federal Government has dragged the Senator representing Bauchi Central in the National Assembly, Isah Hamman Misau before the Federal High Court, Abuja, for allegedly making “injurious falsehood” against the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, and the Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Mike Okiro, and the Nigeria Police in various newspaper publications.
Misau, in the seven-count charge filed by the office of the Attorney General of the Federation, is said to have, by his alleged conduct, committed offences punishable under Section 1(2)(C) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act Cap 17 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and punishable under the same section of the Act.
5. IBE KACHIKWU MEETS MAIKANTI BARU AT ENERGY SUMMIT IN ABUJA
Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Ibe Kachikwu and Maikanti Baru, the Group Managing Director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, on Tuesday put aside their differences and exchanged pleasantries at the ongoing Nigerian Economic Summit in Abuja.
According to reports, Baru, a lead discussant at one of the sessions, arrived first while Kachikwu walked in about 15 minutes later. As soon as the Minister of State entered, Baru stood, approached him and exchanged pleasantries.
Kachikwu also offered that he be represented at the second session of the dialogue by Baru, of which he represented him.
6. BUHARI WRITES SENATE, SEEKS APPROVAL FOR $5.5BN LOAN
President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the National Assembly seeking approval for a loan request of $6.5 billion to fund the 2017 Budget.
Buhari’s appeal was contained in a letter read on the floor of the Red Chamber by the President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, on Tuesday.
The money consists of $3bn of external loan, and 2.5 billion to be raised through Eurobond or Diaspora bond in the international market.
In the letter dated last Wednesday, the president also said the budget has a 2.4 trillion naira deficit.
7. PDP LEADERS INSIST ON ZONING PRESIDENCY TO THE NORTH
The Leadership of the three northern geopolitical zones in the Peoples Democratic Party have made known the party’s zoning of the presidency to the North while declaring their support to the Southwest to clinch the chairmanship slot zoned to the South.
The party leaders spoke in Abuja on Tuesday at a gathering aimed at building consensus for the forthcoming national elective convention of the party in December.
The meeting which had in attendance former governors, ministers, top public officials including the Acting PDP National Chairman, Ahmed Makarfi resolved to present a worthy candidate from the North in the 2019 elections.
8. FEDERAL HIGH COURT ADJOURNS TRIAL OF SEVEN SUSPECTED PIRATES TO NOVEMBER 6
The Federal High court sitting in Ikoyi has adjourned trial in a suit filed by the Federal Government against seven suspected pirates.
The pirates had last year February hijacked a Saudi Arabian ship, the MT Maximus, and engaged the Nigerian navy in a fire-fight during the operation.
At Tuesday’s sitting, the suspects were charged on a seven count of piracy, illegal transfer of petroleum products and unlawful possession of arms.
Prosecution witness Lieutenant commander Adeyemi gave the court details of the statements of the accused men.
But the defence said the statements were obtained from the suspects under duress, arguing that it cannot be tendered as evidence in the trial.
Justice Hassan adjourned the trial till November the 6th.
9. REPS SUMMON HEALTH MINISTER OVER MONKEY POX OUTBREAK
Nigeria’s House of Representatives has summoned Health Minister, Professor Isaac Adewole to explain measures taken by the Federal Government to tackle the outbreak of the Monkeypox in some states in the country.
At the Tuesday’s plenary presided over by Speaker Yakubu Dogara, Lawmakers lamented that the country’s Health Ministry was helpless without relying on the World Health Organisation to stop the spread of the virus.
Reps also expressed concern that a country as big as Nigeria did not have a laboratory to respond to the health emergency without first sending specimen to Dakar, Senegal, for investigations.
10. BRITISH GOVT WILL SUPPORT FG TO CURB SPREAD OF MONKEYPOX – BRITISH DEP. ENVOY
The British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Laure Beaufils, has assured that his government would support the Federal Government in its efforts to stop the spread of the recent outbreak of monkey pox disease in the country.
Beaufils who disclosed this in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, during his visit to the office of the state chapter of International Federation of Women Lawyers, said: “This outbreak is a very serious concern and the British government is supporting the government of Nigeria in addressing health, education and basic services in general and to ensure that the health of the population here goes from strength to strength and that more efforts are been put in place to stop further spreading of the disease.
