DEATH CASES IN ABUJA VILLAGE

The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) has recorded strange illness that has claimed the lives of not less than 38 person in the recent outbreak.

The villagers were dismayed, expressing grief over lives lost and as a matter of fact, worried as the cause of the death cases had not been made known to them, worse still no adequate primary health care centres in the community.

 

INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE DEMOTES DIVISIONAL POLICE OFFICER

Mr. Patrick Onwu, the DPO in charge of Ikenne Division of Ogun state, had been dealt with for allegedly harassing a female traffic warden unlawfully, given her the beaten of her life.

The Inspector General of police,  Solomon Arase has ordered the commissioner of police to be concerned and investigate thoroughly on the matter. The DPO has since been demoted to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).

 

CHIBOK PARENTS LAMENT

The parents, relatives and friends of the abducted school girls in Chibok are seriously lamenting their bitter ordeal over the missing 219 school girls by the Boko Haram.

Two years gone, but the memories of the Chibok girls still remains fresh in their hearts, as they gathered in front of the Government Secondary School, Chibok yesterday to mark the second anniversary.

 

N3.2TN TO BE USED FOR TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE

The Federal Government had on Wednesday in Abuja during a capacity building programme demanded the total sum of $16bn to silence the rising challenges in the transport sector within the next five years.

In a breakdown of the $16bn, the ICRC boss said the sum of $5bn would be required in the aviation sector,  while $11bn would be used to bridge the infrastructure gap in rail and other transport segments. Although, the government obviously does not have the money to fund the project now, we are looking at other sources like PPP, Dikko stated.

 

BANK BOSS IN A DILEMMA

Mr. Timothy Oguntayo, the Managing Director of Skye bank Plc has further escaped a bench warrant given to him by a Lagos High Court, Ikeja, on the request to release $2 million which was frozen by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC to one Hyde Aremu Adelakun.

The counsel to Skye bank MD, Mr. olanrewaju Osinaike,  told the court that they had succumbed with the court’s order,  but the court didn’t sit yesterday, following the absence of the trial judge as he went on a prison visit.

 

153 PRISONS INMATES FREED

Justice Oluwafumilayo Atilade, the Chief Judge of Lagos State had on Wednesday released about 153 kirikiri prisons inmates who are awaiting trial for over 15 years. The inmates were freed as part of her kind gesture to ensure that the prisons were not congested.

The Chief Judge solicited the support of all the important officials in the Justice system by all and sundry. The deputy controller in charge of the Kirikiri maximum prison,  Seye Oduntan, expressed profound gratitude for the benevolence attitude displayed.

 

AREGBESOLA’S CONVOY STOPPED BY PROTESTERS

Governor Rauf Aregbesola had on his way to the office stopped along Gbongan – Ibadan expressway by the members of the Campaign for Defence of Human Rights against corruption in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

The protesters did not clear off the way to the convoy until policemen came down and they dispersed. They lamented the hardship and corruption in Nigeria, but with rising hope,  GOV. Aregbesola commended them for their effort and urged them to continue in their support for anti – corruption in the nation.

 

BENUE SHUT DOWN FOR A PEACEFUL PROTEST

Makurdi the Benue state capital was on Wednesday disrupted as thousands of anti – fulani herdsmen protesters staged a movement for a peaceful protest in the state.

The protest was carried out in order to stop the killings and fightings between the fulani herdsmen and the Agatu people in the state. The people called on the international community to intervene in the matter,  as the Federal Government that was supposed to be protecting lives and properties of the citizen was protecting cattle instead.

 

PRESIDENT, GOVERNORS TO QUIT OFFICE  –  SULE

Alhaji Maitama Sule,  an elder statesman,  has adviced that the serving president and governors seeking for a re-election should leave the office before the next election.  Speaking during the inaugural edition at the University of Calabar, he urged African countries to adapt to social cultural and economic yearnings of the masses.

He made known to the public why people perpetuate their stay in power and further adviced the incumbent president and governors seeking for re-election to resign until somebody permanent is reelected.

 

KIDNAPPED CHANNELS TV REPORTER RESCUED

Mr. Tope Kutiyi,  the Imo State correspondent of channels television who was kidnapped last Monday,  was released yesterday by his abductors unharmed. The security agencies took a step after the hoodlums demanded N15 million from the captive’s relations.

Mr. Taiwo Lakanu, personally led the operation for the journalist rescue,  although, the hoodlums numbering about seven, took Kutiyi’s work tools but he was rescued by a 100 –  man squad in the huge forest at Ohoba in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of the state.

 

$15M COMMITTED TO NIGERIA’S AGRIC SECTOR

The Chinese President Xi Jinping yesterday in Beijing,  offered $15 million agricultural assistance to Nigeria for the establishment of her farms across the country. He made this known at a meeting between delegates of Nigeria and high ranking Chinese government in Beijing.

The two parties signed an agreement (memorandum of understanding) as part of the efforts to boost president Buhari administration’s effort at diversifying the economy. President Jinping agreed that Nigeria’s chosen part of development was the best way to go and he also promises to set up major projects in Nigeria.
