  1. NLC, TUC PROTEST VERIFICATION POLICY BY KADUNA GOVT.

In their hundreds, they converged on the state NLC secretariat on Wednesday with representatives of affiliate unions and civil society organization to hold a mini rally in Kaduna State, Northwest Nigeria.

The workers under the umbrella of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) alleged that most of them had not been paid salaries for about eight months. The Kaduna State has given the workers till Monday, March 28 to fill and return the forms and has vowed to apply sanctions against defaulters.

 

  1. EKITI ASSEMBLY TO SUE DSS, FG FOR UNLAWFUL DETENTION

The Ekiti State House of Assembly says it has instructed its lawyers to sue the Federal Government and the Department of State Services for “the undemocratic, unpatriotic, dictorial and brutish” detention of a member, Afolabi Akanni for 18 days without a valid court order.

It claimed that Akanni was dumped in an unnamed private hospital by the DSS after 18 days in illegal detention. The Ekiti Assembly therefore, demands an official explanation from the DSS as to why Hon. Akanni was abducted and held incommunicado for 18 days.

Deputy Speaker Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. Friday Osanebi has called on Youth leaders to be proactive and people oriented in their leadership, always carrying their followers along in policies and programmes.

Osanebi gave the charge, when he supervised the disbursement of operation free your leaders in Asaba, Delta State, which was to empower and bring succor to the less privileged in their localities.

Ahead of the September Governorship election in Edo State, the Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Chris Nehikhare, has assured people of the state of the resolve of the party to organize free, fair and transparent primaries to select a credible and acceptable candidate.

He re-emphasized the party’s position on campaigns and uses the opportunity to respond to a media aide of one of All Progressive Congress, APC’s Governorship aspirants, saying that it was Governor Adams Oshiomhole that introduced hate campaigns into Edo politics.

 

  1. BUHARI URGED TO CONFIRM SEMENITARI AS SUBSTANTIVE NDDC MD

President Muhammadu Buhari has been urged to confirm the appointment of Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, as substantive Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

President, Niger Delta youths for positive change and progress. Mr. Emmanuel Enisuu, who made the appeal in a statement in Port Harcourt, Rivers State said that as acting Managing Director, Semenitari had affected positive changes in the commission that needed to be consolidated with her confirmation as substantive MD.

The chairman who admitted reading about the speculation of his imminent removal from office, however, said it was one of such challenges inherent into the senate in the status.

 

  1. BUHARI COMMENDS SARAKI, DOGARA, AND LAWMAKERS FOR PASSING 2016 BUDGET

The special adviser to the president on National Assembly matters (senate), Sen. Ita Enang told newsmen at a press briefing in Abuja that the expeditious consideration and passage of the bill was laudable.

He further commended the Senate and House Committee on appropriation as well as the sub-committees for working hard in ensuring that the budget was passed. The Special Adviser further commended the legislature for approving the harmonized version of the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and fiscal strategy paper (FSP), adding that they were the parameter for passing the budget.

The Federal Government has set up a committee, named Presidential Committee on verification of assets to investigate high profile corruption cases that were allegedly compromised by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission. The Committee is yet to be inaugurated.

The Prime Minister lost to the opposition candidate, Patrice Talon.
