AGN PRESIDENT, IBINABO FIBERESIMA CELEBRATES HER AWARD
‘I GIVE IT ALL TO GOD’
FORMER beauty queen and first female president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Ibinabo Fiberesima emerged the most decorated Nollywood actress at the awards. Those who gave her the vote were pointing at scores of other industry awards she had cornered since she was elected president.
Madam President who was visibly elated by the recognition accorded her at Nollywood @ 20 celebrations speaks with ENCOMIUM Weekly.
How does it feel tonight?
It is glorious and fulfilling to be here.
Especially when you were also honoured with another award for your outstanding contribution to Nollywood?
It is amazing that at my relatively young age in the industry these accolades and recognitions are coming at such amazing speed. I really appreciate and thank God Almighty, who promotes and demotes.
What are your thoughts for Nollywood at 20?
We are just beginning. We would continue to celebrate. It has been a beautiful evening. I’m impressed we have been able to celebrate our own. And I know it would get bigger in another 20 years. For once, Nollywood is celebrating Nollywood. It is not a case of others celebrating us.
Can you then share with us the Nollywood of your dream?
Nollywood of my dream is where things would be done properly. We also need to have world class pictures and sound. We are getting there soon with the rate with which we are embracing the latest technology.
Your leadership of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has so far been hailed by all as result-oriented, what else can you do?
So far, the ones I have done is by the special grace of God. And it is only His Grace that can lead me again. My first year is gone. I’m stepping into my second year.
President Goodluck Jonathan has been widely praised for his support for Nollywood, what is your take on this?
I think President Jonathan is the only Nigerian president that has remembered Nollywood and the entertainment industry at large. And I know he is going to do more and more. Right now, we can apply for grants and get them. I personally feel he has done so well for us.
You are from South South, where your governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi is believed to be against Jonathan, where do you stand?
I guess it is his own personal opinion. I’m for President Jonathan.
So, you are supporting Mr. President?
Always forever!
How would you assess the year so far?
It has been a wonderful year. God really lifted me up. And I’m very grateful to Him.
