NORTHERN YOUTHS ASK IGBOS TO LEAVE WITHIN THREE MONTHS
Some Northern Nigeria youth groups on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, declared that all the Igbos residing in the North should leave the area within three months. They also asked Northerners in the South-East to leave the area, warning that they will commence visible action as from October 1.
Although the Federal Government had issued no response, they cited that the latest activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) amount to a brutal encroachment. They, however, suggested that instead of a certain sections holding the whole country to ransom at every stage, each should be allowed to go its own way.
APPEAL COURT DISMISSES N600 MILLION CASE AGAINST EX-AIR VICE MARSHAL
The case of fraud brought against the former chairman of the Presidential Implementation Committee on Maritime Safety and Security, Saliu Atawodi, had been dismissed yesterday, by an Abuja division of the Appeal Court.
Mr. Atawodi, who was accused of diverting the sum meant for the purchase of gun boats to address oil bunkering in Niger-Delta, approach the Appeal Court after the ruling at the lower court led by Justice Tani Hassan-Yusuf upheld his application and discharged the case against him.
I HAVE NO CASE TO ANSWER – NDUME
Senator Ali Ndume, from the Borno south constituency, had on Tuesday told a Federal High Court in Abuja that he had no case to answer, following the alleged sponsorship of terrorism charges against him by the Federal Government.
Ndume clearly stated that there is no ingredients of the charges proved as required by law, hence, his counsel prayed the court to strike out the charge against Ndume wherein that no prima facie case to warrant him going to defend himself was established.
GOV. DICKSON URGES PDP
The governor of Bayelsa state, Henry Seriake Dickson yesterday advised leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to have faith in the party despite all odds.
He stressed the need for the PDP leaders to work in unison irrespective of the lingering litigation. He, however, promised to address PDP faithful after the Supreme Court judgment.
APC YOUTHS PROTEST AGAINST EL-RUFAI’S GOVERNMENT
The Kaduna state House of Assembly was stormed yesterday by some youths who protested against the APC led government’s failure to keep up with the promise of empowering them. The aggrieved youths, however, lamented that there will be no more APC come 2019.
However, Sadiq Shuaibu, the El-Rufai Campaign Group Organisation Secretary admitted that El-Rufai was doing his own part by carrying every one along. He therefore urges the youths to be calm because those working under his cabinet are the ones diverting the benefits for their own interests but they will be brought to book soon.
CHIEFTAIN SUSPENDED OVER DISRESPECT FOR AMAECHI
Chief Allwell Onyesoh has been suspended for allegedly disregarding the leader of All Progressives Congress and Transportation Minister, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi. He was accused of wanting to smear Amaechi’s image.
Chief Onyesoh was, however, dismissed from the party until he purges himself of contempt. Meanwhile, Chief Ogbonna Nwuke, a former member of the State Executive Council of Rivers state is to act as the protem chairman.
ROBBERS REMOVE ATM, KILL THREE POLICEMEN
Hoodlums on Tuesday evening had attacked three banks which are very close to the Bowen University, Iwo in Osun state. Some of the automated teller machines were reportedly removed by the said robbers.
The thieves and policemen exchanged fire during the operation which resulted in killing 3 policemen and a robber. A resident confirmed that banks in Iwo have been closing by 12 noonfor the past two months. However, the matter is under investigations by the police.
COURT ORDERS EFCC TO PAY SENATOR NYAKOR N12.5 M IN 30 DAYS
Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the Federal High Court Abuja had on Tuesday June 6, ordered the EFCC to pay N12.5 million for intruding on the fundamental human right of Abdulaziz Nyako within 30 days.
The N12.5 million was imposed on the anti-graft agency for illegally arresting, detenting and freezing all of Nyako’s bank accounts for over two years without charging him to court.
FG, PPPRA MAKE CRUCIAL ANNOUNCEMENT ON FUEL PRICE INCREASE
The Federal Government had on Tuesday assured Nigerians to ignore rumours that it was planning to raise the pump price of petrol by N5. It was stressed that petrol price currently stands at N145 per litre in all filling stations across the country.
The Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) said it understood the concerns of Nigerian consumers and would do anything within its capacity to keep the price unchanged.
NIGERIAN SENATE TO PROBE PRESIDENT BUHARI OVER OGONI CLEAN-UP PROJECT
The Nigerian Senate has expressed concern over the implementation of the Ogoni clean-up exercise, hence, nothing about the exercise has been heard since it was launched with fan-fare last year.
The Federal Government which launched the project in June 2016 last year with an initial cost of $1 billion has kept mute since after the visit to the area by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo for the launch.
