POPULAR Yoruba actor, Ishola Durojaye, better known and addressed as Ahmed Alasari, is dead.
ENCOMIUM Weekly gathered from an industry source that the talented actor cum broadcaster died in an auto crash on Sunday, March 20, 2011. He was said to be on his way to Lagos for the television promotional show of his last movie entitled, Iyanu.
“Ahmed Alasari is dead. I learnt his newly acquired black Toyota jeep somersaulted at Onipepeye, along Abeokuta/Lagos Expressway. The same spot he had an accident last year. He died on the spot because he had deep injuries all over his head. There were five other occupants, mainly children involved in the crash. Some of them I learnt suffered different degrees of injuries. They are all at General Hospital, Abeokuta, Ogun State receiving treatment while Alasari’s corpse has been deposited in the mortuary of the same hospital,” the source squealed.
Since the news of the Owu, Abeokuta, Ogun State born actor was broken via internet, the movie industry has been thrown into mourning.
The ebony actor cum radio/TV presenter, we learnt, will be buried in his Ita Elega residence, Abeokuta, Ogun State on Wednesday, March 23, 2011. He was 46 and is survived by two wives and five children.
Until his death, he was a strong member of Progressive Forum, Ogun State chapter, Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioners (ANTP) under the leadership of Lateef Deinde.
His hit movies include Kunle Alajeseku, Bisola Alanu, Mopelola, Apeja, Ilu Awon Oku, Shade Blade and Iyanu, his last flick.
ENCOMIUM Weekly sought the reaction of his close friend, Bolaji Amusan, a.k.a Mr. Latin, on Monday, March 21, 2011, to no avail. The comic actor was later said to be on a United States of America tour.
But we got across to his personal assistant, Emeka Seun, who confirmed the incident.
“It is true that Alasari is dead. He would be buried on Wednesday this week. My boss is not around now, but effort is in progress to get him informed about the incident. It is a very pathetic death. Too young and nice to die. We will miss him. May his soul rest in peace.”
