Torrents of eulogy trail Dimgba Igwe’s death (7): ‘I will be there for his family’ – Orji Uzor Kalu, former governor Abia State

“The greatest gift of God is the gift of life.  God has also given two things that you can never separate, “the day of birth” and “the day of death.” I want to assure my sister in-law that, as long as I live, the children will attend the best schools except they don’t want to read and be employed in the best place they want to work.  Dimgba was our soul mate in business, I did not believe it when the news was taken to me by Femi Adeshina.  I was in London when I heard and was very sad. Forget about your children, they will go to the best school unless they are not ready to read.  I will be there for them at all times.  We are not separated because we will still meet again and commit all of you in the Hands of God.  We should thank God that we are here to celebrate him, many people will die and no one will celebrate them.  We pray that the rest of us will live to fulfill our destiny and leave at God’s own time.

Accept my deepest condolences.  Life is a journey, it starts somewhere and ends somewhere.  Please, accept my profound sympathy.”

You just gave Dimgba’s children scholarships. What do you want Dimgba Igwe to be remembered for?

When I’m back from China, I am going to see Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, to let him repair this road and make sure it is named after Dimgba.  That would be good enough and I will ask people of goodwill to continue to remember him.

Would there be like a yearly lecture in honour of this great man?

Time will tell because Rome was not built in a day.  Let us bury him first and after that, we would be able to talk about the next programme to do.

What do you have to say about medical facilities in Nigeria because if they were good, Dimgba would not have died?

Not only the government, it also extends to the private sector because we have a long and deep way to go as a country, individuals and corporate bodies.  We need to make haste while the sun shines.  We are relying on government and individuals but the corporate bodies should come up very strongly because the economy has gone past where the government as no role to play, but they have a role to play as private sectors.  What people need is power supply and they would provide every other thing.

Security also plays a key role in the death of the veteran because there were no street cameras in place.  What do you have to say to this?

We need power supply first and everything else will fall into place.
