In death, polyglot and ultimate master of ceremonies, Olufemi Enitan Segun, 56 this year, turned a giant serenaded by hundreds of those he came across during an impressive funeral service at House on the Rock (off Lekki-Epe Expressway), Lekki, Lagos, today (Friday, March 28, 2014).

With tributes from Mr. Banwo and Mrs. Kemi Balogun, Pastor Paul Adefarasin (head pastor of House on the Rock) serenaded the gentleman who passed on on Friday, March 21, 2014, at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja (Lagos), following complications from a power bike accident a week earlier.

On the front row were his children (Rolari, 25 and Fikemi, 14) in lilac iro and buba, his wife, Bisi (a judge in Lagos), his former wife, Yeni Kuti (daughter of Afrobeat

king, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti) and Made (Femi Kuti’s son by Funke).

Many wore long faces, but were happy about the life of the amiable gentleman whom Adefarasin pronounced is in the bosom of the Lord.

The service lasted over two hours –and the highlights were the tributes, sermon by Pastor Adefarasin, and the school song rendition by old students of Igbobi College.

Those who had not seen themselves in a long while exchanged banters and back-slapped.

With many pictures of Femi Segun in the foyer where condolence registers were positioned, the spot and the stairway leading to the church became central meeting points.  Old stories were exchanged, and chit chats encouraged.

Family members of the admired polyglot were well composed.
